Really interesting hidden gem. My son really likes libraries and after seeing the pics I thought the building looked interesting so worth a trip. His review is 'Really good lots of books'. While he looked over the books I had a look around the building, they have some really interesting info on Wilfred Owen and bits and bobs to look at. Worth a visit if you've never been though unless you have a little reader like me who curled up with a book for an hour you won't need loads of time.
The library has a brilliant selection however it is lacking any up to date non-fiction and technical publications such as modern programming, which I would consider critical with the direction the current curriculum and indeed the world is headed. However, the library does have a decent selection of kids books & DVDs, along with an adequate IT suite.
Currently using track and trace. They have multiple stations for hand sanitising and you put the books into a box for them to clean. Filled out form for track and trace and put into a box then pencils once used are also kept separate for sanitising.
Great looking however lacks up to date non-fictional books, this area needs better educational books to support students education. This is a vital resource in an already impoverished area, the council should really do more to preserve this iconic building and fund it more, instead if running it into the ground with a view to sell our public assets to developers,
My husband and I went on the tour by Sheena yesterday and we thoroughly enjoyed it - unfortunately we had a prior appointment and had to leave just before the end and did not have chance to thank her. So a big THANK YOU - we thought you were very knowledgeable and opened our eyes to lots of current uses for libraries - we are not currently members but will rectify that at the earliest opportunity - thank you so much - Lynn and Phil Williams
It a strange libary very limited on some subjects , and extremely well covered on others. Obviously I'm referring to non fiction. Superb local history section
Thanks to this library I managed to learn all the necessary skills to update our old house back in 2001. I did gained valuable skills for our second house the whole plumbing and kitchen was done by me thanks to their books. From wallpapering to plumbing! I also learned a fair bit of DSLR photography, computer skills like HTML, CSS, PHP, old FLash 5 skills, PC Networks, MySQL etc. I know now you can Googled things or watch stuff on YouTube but nothing beats the written word! Not to mention some excellent novels like 'Care of Wooden Floors' or the one I am reading now 'The Better Angels Of Our Nature'. The array of books, videos, cds and DVDs is immense. Always very welcoming friendly staff and a beautiful building. In my opinion one of the most valuables assets in Birkenhead. Thank you Birkenhead Library and to all Wirral libraries too!

Your local book lending place and more ! Support such a good and wide selective Library. Pc and inter-net use free for first half hour then cheap rates. I love the place, all that knowledge in all thoses books, its Amazing
good library but sadly gets ruined by kids running round and shouting ... people go for a quiet read or just to relax for a few hours
