Weekly treat of well priced whopper danish pastries from a wide variety of types or luscious smooth custard slices - all are a total joy! There is such a variety of yummy baked goods here and as one of the other reviewers said proper bakery's like this are becoming more rare. I have never been sold anything stale or substandard from this shop.

When passing through Winscombe I usually stop at Birds the baker. I stopped there today 9/06/17 and bought the usual... Viennese fingers and Chelsea buns...well what can I say! What's going on ! The fingers where ok but usually they are the best. But for the first time in living memory they weren't the best... We attempted to eat the Chelsea buns. Prior to eating they where kept in the bag we bought them in and it was only an hour since we bought them. ( 13:30 from the shop) what's going on! They where so dry and completely inedible and I am not known for wasting food!....I could not say for sure but they looked and tasted at least a day or two old...they weren't fresh anyway...I was so disappointed...I hope it is a one off and that it was a temporary glitch in my relationship...I will return one day but not for a while!.

Great bread. Biggest range of pies ever. Great cakes. Loads of deli ingredients. Bakeries like this are getting rare.

I'm sad to say I'm getting really frustrated with this bakery. In the past I cycled here and got cakes which were lovely! It makes me all the more more frustrated that now I live locally when I treat myself here I am so disappointed by the quality of the food. On my most recent visits the cakes have felt and tasted so stale. One morning I popped in with a friend expecting to get a lovely fresh pasty but to our horror they were stone cold!
