Attended the 'Only fools and three courses ' event here and had a great night out. I didn't stay so can't comment on the rooms but I can say that the hotel is situated in lovely grounds with a Deer enclose just outside the main doors, so you can pop out and feed the deer easily. Great fun. Inside, the hotel is clean and modern, with a very open bar area with sofa seating. The function rooms are large enough for a decent party. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food was very good. Overall, if you fancy testing yourself to a memorable hotel break, you can't you wrong here.

Myself and a colleague stayed in the beautiful retreat. We had a warm welcome from staff and an immaculate room. Only minus would be that it was only a shower and no bath. However we weren't deterred by this. Food here was beautiful presented in the restaurant and very good value. I would not hesitate to stay here again anytime I'm in the area.

Excellent, good value hotel. Typical of Best Western, they don’t acquire a characterful hotel like this and impose a corporate cookie-cutter brand-driven look to it. Love them for that and love this hotel. Good food at dinner and the tastiest breakfast I've had in a hotel for years. Nice old building and all the rooms are contained in it - there isn't a modern brick built wing sticking out the back as you often get with places like this. Interesting little wood out the back with pretty features tucked away. It looks like a popular wedding venue - very understandable. Deer in the park right outside the front of the hotel is a bonus. You can get bags of food from reception and they will eat it right out of your hand. Lovely. Not too far from Durham and lovely countryside in the area, so a good base for a weekend. All the mod cons business travellers need too - plenty of sockets etc in the room.

I attended this venue for a wedding, it was very nice and the drinks were cheaper than expected. However we only received our room key at around 5, they did however give us a room to change in. There was a few people who got stung with tabs on rooms and it didn't seem like there was many measures in place to stop this. You just said your room number and had to provide no proof. Ensure you tell them to block all tabs on the room when you arrive.

Stayed at this hotel earlier in the year in a lovely bright airy room. But the room we stayed in over Christmas was in a desperate need of a makeover . Bathroom had not been cleaned and the silicone around the bath was black! Staff brilliant..breakfast lovely. Room terrible
