Lovely shop. Lots of choice! Found what we wanted!
I telephoned before visiting to enquire about this store's stock of water-resistant fabrics. The gentleman whom I spoke with was very helpful and when I visited the store later in the day, he also served me. The store has a nice atmosphere - it isn't too big as some haberdashery stores are, so you can't get lost under a pile of fabric! The staff seem genuinely happy to help and advise you. A great shopping experience. I will certainly return whenever I need anything more.
The prices are talking to the sky. Honestly, you can find the same fabric 5 time cheaper in price if your go online or other market shops. Its true they have a lot of varieties
I can't believe some of the poor reviews on here. I've been in this shop a few times now, and the staff are very helpful when asked for advice. If I'm browsing, then I'm left in peace, unlike some fabric shops in Berwick Street where the staff pounce on you as soon as you're through the door. The range of fabrics stocked is immense - from sequins to scuba jersey and everything in between. This is one of my favourite shops.
This is a fabric store with lovely fabrics and a fantastic variety. However, not only is it overpriced, for ex. you can get the same metallic leatherette/coated fabric at Borovicks for £22.00 a meter instead of £35.00 the staff here are EXTREMELY rude. To be honest, most of the fabric stores on Berwick St. have grouchy and sullen employees, but this place is the worst. I have shopped at the fabric shops on Berwick Street since 2013 and the rotten attitude of the staff at this store in my experience has been consistent. It has not mattered who has worked there, that's the funny part, I am not even speaking about one person. Everyone I have ever encountered there is rude. About two years ago I mentioned how unpleasant the staff were to another salesperson at another local store and they told me that they used to work there, agreed that the staff were unfriendly and in particular worked a woman who customers always complained about. The negative vibes this store gives off has discouraged me from shopping there for about a year or more. But today I thought I would go in, because it does have a great selection. However, once again the Berwick Street Cloth Shop vibe was moody. Therefore I have finally decided to write this negative review because of my final horrible experience. I was looking at fabric bent down while a sales person was busy organizing the rolls of cloth across from me. She accidentally hit me in the face with the end of the fabric roll. I stammered "oh sorry" and as she turned around to glare at me, she aloofly said "what, did I hit you?" to which I replied "yes". She then very surprise! rudely responded "sorry". So I said "I am sorry I guess I am in the way" to which she said "no it's fine". LIKE OBVIOUSLY IT'S FINE I AM A CUSTOMER. It's absolutely okay to accidentally bump into someone or hit them in the face, but to do so and not react until the person who has been hit says sorry to which you then glare back is too much. Literally comical. There are so many shops on Berwick Street, for price and value go to my favorite shop there The Cloth Shop. The selection is varied and the staff are much much much more friendly. Fabric shops should be enjoyable to enter and explore. No one should feel intimidated to go and ask for help or buy stuff. Lastly I feel bad for anyone who works there that is nice, because I have not met you and this review is focused on everyone being glum. But in my experience I have only ever encountered mean spirited people. Two stars, one for beautiful goods and the other for the one nice employee who maybe exists there
I visited this shop today during my weekend trip to London, and I was extremely pleased! The staff was so kind and helpful and I got extremely beautiful silk for a much better price than what I am used to! It was definitely cheaper than the one down the street and their fabrics were great : I will definitely come back next time
Cannot imagine why anyone would complain about the staff here. They are lovely, and also very knowledgeable. They all seem to have hands-on expertise and can give proper advice. The range of cloth is amazing and it's my number one stop when shopping for fabrics in the whole of London. They specialise in the extraordinary - I have found fabric here that I have seen nowhere else.
Very pleasant & friendly, helpful staff who are extremely knowledgeable about fabric. One of the sales assistants went out of her way to find the colour I had as a piece of fabric which turned out to be a perfect match. Highly recommended.
Rude staff who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. For context; environmentally conscious production exists from when a natural fabric is first grown to when it is spun/milled/whatever into the bolts of fabric seen in stores. The companies that do these processes can be environmentally conscious every step of the way. However, at least one staff member at this store believes that bolts of fabric are just found on the ground and that nothing can ever be done by any company to change the effects of the production process on the environment. She believes that only what is done after buying the fabric matters. Obviously wrong. This staff member is rude, lacks knowledge, and shouldn't be working in retail, never mind fashion. Do not shop here, there are much better shops within walking distance.
quite nice fabrics BUT OVER PRICED. BUT THE WORST PART IS THE STAFFING IN THAT PLACE. i was once a shop assistant the girls and boys have to stop thinking they are the bees knees and treat the customers with respect and attention. i went there 2 days in a row and spent each time over £120.00 and both times the staff drinking tea and staring at me while ignoring me at the same time. get it sorted!!
