My girlfriend and I popped in for dinner on a Wednesday evening for a meal after having read some positive reviews. I’ll start off by saying the experience did not disappoint! The staff were friendly and conscientious, and made us feel very welcome. The food was excellent. We shared the garlic and chilli prawns and a slice of crispy, buttered garlic bread to start - perfectly cooked, with strong, hearty, but not overpowering or eye-watering flavours. For our mains, my better half went for the battered cod with chunky chips. The batter was flaky, the cod light and delicate, not greasy or overcooked. The chips were crispy on the outside, hot and fluffy on the inside - perfect! The portion was impressive, such that I had to finish it off for her get in. I went for the burger with fries and salad. My fries were crispy and salty and very moreish. The relish in the burger was fresh, the tomato and lettuce and red onion all coming through. The cheese was excellent as you might expect from a pub in Cheddar and made for an excellent one-two punch with two juicy beef patties stacked on top of one another. Drinks-wise, the lady enjoyed a pint of asahi, and myself, a beautifully-poured Guinness. If you’re in the area, stop by for dinner. We had a fantastic time!
We stayed in a massive and beautifully decorated room. The staff were welcoming and there’s free parking as long as you make sure you register your car. Breakfast was tasty and they even made us vanilla iced lattes yummy! as it’s been very hot over the past week. A definite must stay. We’ll be back again
Ignore the 1 Star Review! Venting your anger via a shitty review because YOU forgot to register your car in a known tourist hot spot and so got a fine, then claiming your fish was undercooked, but you didn’t mention it to the hotel staff, is as petty and nasty as it gets in my view. So, here is an honest and reasonable review by someone new to this hotel. From the outside the Bath Arms is nothing special - a fairly plain 1930s building with an average garden out front and a car park at the rear. Inside it’s spacious, cosy and comfortable, in a muted lighting, high quality furnishings, uncluttered kind of way. Dogs are welcome and the staff are friendly and efficient. The menu is good and varied, something for everyone and very good value these days, with plenty around the £18-20 mark for mains. The food is clearly cooked by a cook, not just reheated from something pre-prepared and brought in from a catering supplier. I had ham hock terrine with homemade picalilli and salad and chicken thigh with creamy mustard and honey sauce, roasted new potatoes and greens. My wife had fish and triple cooked chips with homemade mushy peas and tartare sauce, followed by mango and lime cheesecake - individual portion, homemade - and it was all delicious. The staff were charming. Because we were first time visitors to Cheddar, we each had a local still cider, but there were plenty of cask ales, wines and other drinks available. All in all, a very pleasant experience. Places like this deserve to be supported. It’s tough for the hospitality industry at the moment, and the last thing they need or deserve are vindictive reviews from spiteful people.
Our room was spacious, clean and with a good size bathroom. The plumbing was good with plenty of hot water for a bath and central heating. If there's anything you need the staff go out of their way to help. The food is generally good and the service is excellent. A very good base if you're visiting the Gorge or the city of Wells nearby.
We went there for an evening meal.nThe bar has a good selection of food and beers.nThe food is pub food, but done to quite a high standard, it is tasty, of good portion size, well cooked and well presented.nThe staff are friendly and helpful.nThe bar is comfortable with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.nThere is plenty of free car parking in the rear of the building, with a number plate sign in in the bar.
