WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Extremely unprofessional and will quote you one price but charge you something higher. I called Avenue Taxis on the 20th July to get a quote for a taxi to and from a location near Norwich, for 6 people on the following Saturday 23rd. I was quoted £160 for a minibus "both ways" which I understood to mean that the whole trip there and back would be £160, but I even went as far as to confirm that was the case and not just for a single journey. They confirmed that it was and so after getting more expensive quotes from 2 other companies I decided to call back the next day to book them. During this call I spoke with a different individual and again double checked that the £160 was for there and back which I was advised it would be. They quoted me for another single car as we weren't sure if there would be more of us, which I was told would be £110 there and £125 on the way back. These journeys were clearly explained as 2 separate amounts so I even queried why this would be more expensive than a minibus and was told that a minibus is a set price. I didn't really understand the logic but assumed that they had a different process for booking minibuses as it's not my field of expertise and I don't work in the hire car/taxi industry. We booked the taxi and everything was confirmed. When we arrived at our destination on the Saturday we were then surprised to find that the driver was attempting to take £160 for one way. Also worth noting at this point that it wasn't even a minibus either, it was a Ford Galaxy. I explained the situation and he said that there is no way that it would be that cheap to which I stated as above that I do not work in the industry so I wouldn't know the other quotes were more expensive but the difference wasn't more than £30. He said he would raise it with Avenue when he returned and that they would call me, which they did. I received the call a couple of hours later and the man who had completed the booking for me explained that I must have misunderstood and that it was each way and there was no way he would have said that. I continued to protest as I specifically checked this numerous times with 2 different members of staff and now we had no way of getting home as all other taxis were fully booked latitude weekend. I agreed to pay the additional £160 for the way home later that day but he advised that when his manager returned on the Monday he would speak to him and request for the calls to be listened to to see what they could do. Monday came and went with no call so I rang on the Wednesday and spoke to the manager who again stated it was unlikely that his staff had said that as they are all trained and know the costs. I explained that I appreciated that but that I double checked the price specifically for this reasons and had I been told the correct price then I would have booked one of the other taxis. The manager went on to conveniently explain that the call listening system wasn't working for the few days around my call and so they were unable to listen to it but he would speak to his managing director to see if they could do anything. It's now nearly 2 weeks later and I still hadn't heard anything so called today and was advised that following a meeting between the managing director and staff, they are all confident that no one would have given me that price and so there was nothing they could do. I advised that when he says that it sounds to me like he is saying I am lying to which he then became quite aggressive and told me I was putting words in his mouth. I will now be escalating my complaint to the Ipswich Borough Council as I feel Avenue should take responsibility for the fact that they should explain their prices clearly, especially when directly asked if it covers both journeys. They have refused to take ownership and decided to push it back onto their customer as a "misunderstanding" on my part with nothing to support this other than their staff members word, who clearly doesn't want to get in trouble.
I unfortunately cannot rate lower than a 1 star otherwise I would. I called up for a taxi and had an extremely rude call operator. I was trying to find out how long a wait was for a taxi and very abruptly I was told “if you hurry up and give the number or he will be gone”. No one should be spoken to so rudely or shouted at down the line. My friend heard the woman on the line response and she was sitting on the other side of the room to me. I will certainly avoid using this company at all costs. If the person who was so rude to me reads this comment I suggest for you to be kinder and think about how you would like to be spoken to.
Literally just went round the corner to a couple shops, £16. I have used cabs for 30 years and could not understand why they were so much more than hawk express. Not again.
My brother in law & myself paid for a taxi from Ipswich to capel, capel to colchester and paid upfront which they were happy to do. When I arrived home they charged me an extra £50 which I wasn’t happy to pay when I said I had already paid another car turned up and a man started threatening me! I’m currently look for cctv footage as I didn’t get dropped to the house and will be taking this further!
Shocking service by Avenue Taxis. Booked well over a week ago and also called up a few days later to add an additional address. Come the morning when the taxi is supposed to arrive I'm told that no taxi will be coming to pick me up due to school pick ups. No one mentioned this to me when I added the additional address to the booking. Bloody awful! Do not use this company! The next section was added after receiving their reply. Their reply to my initial review is below The whole point to my complaint was that no one contacted me on the day I called as I had a feeling something was wrong or told me a pick up at 8am would be impossible. I even asked the call handler when I called to add the additional address, if 8am was enough time to get to the station. Sort it out, you should have enough taxis to cover school pick up and business. And you didn't cancel the booking I did! A really bad way to run a business! Our policy is to give as much notice of any changes as soon as possible rather than just not turn up to allow for other arrangements to be made and communicate with customers Once again apologies you were not satisfied
Booked a taxi from Ipswich Station about 4 days in advance. I got a phone call the night before confirming my booking. Came to 11:20 when my taxi was booked and no one showed up. I waited 10 mins, still no show so I rang and asked where my taxi was. I was then told they only had 4 taxis in today so no one was coming. They had one minibus I needed a taxi for 6 people or 2 normal cars, which on booking wasn't a problem but it was 20 minutes away and would "get to me it when it can". When I asked why they had let me book online and confirmed it when they couldn't guarantee they'd have enough taxis on I was met with "well everyone is in the same boat as you" - oh great so you've let multiple customers down today!! When I again tried to explain this wasn't good enough and I wasn't prepared to wait another 20 minutes and likely more for my taxi they put the phone down on me!! Luckily we got 2 taxis from the taxi rank outside the station and managed to get to our event on time. Shocking service, if only I had read the reviews before as I can see they make a habit of this! Cue the reply saying "we have thousands of satisfied customers a day".... yeah right!
Lovely lady on switchboard helped me out. Driver came asap as required. Lovely taxi with AC for this hot day. You get what you pay for. Good quality and customer care. Thank you.
At the beginning of the week my wife booked 2 cars or a mini bus for 7 passengers to pickup 12:15 on Sunday, to take us all to the Maybush for our sons 18th birthday lunch. 10 mins before we got a call to let us know they were letting us down. Now we are struggling to keep our table time - thank you very much Avenue Taxi’s. What is the point of pre-booking. Won’t bother with you again.Service: Limousines
I tried to order ataxi and was 2 hours in advance on a sunday for 7 am to take me home from work was told cant do it and hung strairght up on with no explanation or and apoligy the lady was very rude from the moment she answered the phone i ahall not use avanue again due to this
Awful company. Taxi didn't arrive and when rung they said they needed to take payment over the phone and we should have got a text saying they were running late we didn't. No mention of paying by card when booked. They want money up front when already going to be 20 minutes late at the very least?! Absolute joke.
