A garage that states they are never satisfied until they have completely fixed the problem was not true in my case. After spending 450 pounds with them and three attempts to fix my gearbox light fault, I was told I would need a reconditioned gear box costing approx 1600.00 pounds. After going to another garage the problem was solved within one hour and only cost me 54 pounds for another diagnostic and reset. Customer service and honesty was lacking at Autotrans and I would not recommend this garage to anyone.

I had been advised to scrap my elderly Merc because of "gearbox failure". Auto Trans (Gloucester) Ltd. sorted the problem in a couple of hours at a reasonable cost and provided a professional, helpful and much appreciated service. With the help of Doug and his team, she is now back on the road. Cant thank you enough guys; highly recommended.

My SLK went in here to have a gearbox fluid change, charged at £207 including the known weakness of the pin bushing for the electrical connection. On collection, the car was said to need a gearbox rebuild (at 90,000 miles) and this was why it was slurring changes. The car's transmission switch had been knocked into Winter mode. On return to my own garage, I checked the fluid. The locking cap on the dipstick tube (Mercedes do not have an integral dipstick) had not been disturbed (or replaced, as it should be following service which requires the lock to be broken). When dipped, the fluid was pale brown; not the rich red colour of the transmission fluid required by the 722.6. This was less than 500 miles after the work - and yes, I would expect a failing transmission to discolour fluid, but the pale rather than dark nature is old fluid. Even a partial change will not yield fluid as pale as this was. On further inspection it appeared that the wiring to the pin bushing was also untouched, though the gearbox sump had been wiped clean. The lack of an actual, proper oil change, a price which should be applicable to a power flush, and the subsequent advice that the gearbox needs a rebuild from a firm that specialises in gearbox rebuilds - if you take your car here for routine servicing of the transmission, insist on being allowed to supervise. The invoice included £18 of parts and £155 labour before VAT, with no mention of ATF - how, exactly, one runs up £155 labour replacing the pin bushing on a 722.6 is beyond me. I see the garage response below, and can only say I have no reason to make anything up and am fully aware of how to service and maintain a Mercedes transmission, if not rebuild one. When I drain the fluid it will be sent to Millers for analysis - fortunately this era of SLK has a torque convertor drain, so it's easy to get a significant percentage of the old ATF out and avoid the "we drained the sump but there's still a load in the cooler and TC" factor.

DONT TRUST YOUR CAR THIS MAN. I took my vw touran to his place changed my dsg gearbox oil and filter , after for a while i took my car vw blade in gloucester service my gear box , they found out he put wrong oil in gear box , vw sent me a video and evidence , i will go trading standarts tomorrow, he cheating people dont use this doggie place , you dont deserve what you earning over there
