On our way to the Highlands, we stayed one night in this old castle.nnPositive points:nThe castle is magnificent. There’s a beautiful swimming pool, and the hotel restaurant offers a stunning view. The park is peaceful and beautiful.nnNegative points:nThe front desk staff is not friendly at all. No smiles, no effort to solve problems – they simply don't care, to put it bluntly.nThe breakfast staff was unbelievable: they spoke loudly during service, ate pastries in front of guests still seated in the room, and placed glasses on the tables with their fingers inside the glass.nWe even witnessed a team debriefing meeting during breakfast service, right in the middle of the dining room.nnIt’s impossible to have dinner at the restaurant after 8 p.m., and nothing is available at the bar after 8:45 p.m. – not even a sandwich or a piece of cake.nnA tip for travelers arriving after 8 p.m.:nThere’s a Coop supermarket just 2 minutes away by car from the hotel, open until 10 p.m. We ended up doing some shopping and had a picnic in one of the hotel lounges.nnAnd finally, the pool water is extremely chlorinated. My friend had an allergic reaction swollen eye and cheek after getting out. We reported the issue – the smell of chlorine was very strong – and the front desk staff simply replied, “That’s normal.”nnThe spa ! is poorly decorated – a mix of all styles – and looks dated.nIt’s a shame because the view over the hills and woods offers great potential.nnIn short, the castle itself was lovely... but that’s about it.
Simply a fabulous place to stay. We had a beautiful large room with views over the grounds, the woods and hills beyond. The room had a huge bathroom with a walk in shower - perfect for my disabled wife. There was a large tray of 'goodies' awaiting us - biscuits, crisps, chocolates which were replenished during our stay.nThe hotel has a wonderful choice of lounges where you can spend time enjoying the fires while reading or spending time using the free wifi. All the food was excellent, with a good choice, the buffet breakfasts especially had everything you could possibly want. Lunch and afternnon tea were also on hand should anyone manage it - though we couldn't following the large breakfasts.nThe hotel has it's own spa, swimming pool, gym and snooker room which were very popular. There was even a museum on the lower floor showing the history of the building and life in times past.nThe hotel is fully accessible apart from the Atholl Suite which has a few steps to access, however our room was an accessible room on the ground floor, restaurants and lounges were fine for wheelchairs and there are lifts to all floors.nIn all, I would highly recommend this at any time of year but for celebrations or Christmas the wonderful staff make sure that your stay is memorable.
Breathtaking Beauty, but Cold HospitalitynnThe Atholl Palace Hotel in Pitlochry is undeniably one of the most magnificent properties we visited in Scotland. Nestled within acres of impeccably manicured gardens, with lush landscapes, a tranquil duck pond, and a grand fountain, the setting is nothing short of breathtaking. The castle-like architecture, elegant lobbies, and lavish decor immediately set the stage for what we expected to be an unforgettable, almost royal experience.nnUnfortunately, that sense of grandeur quickly faded. While the surroundings were extraordinary, the hospitality was surprisingly cold. We were met with a lack of smiles, warmth, or genuine engagement from the staff—leaving us feeling almost invisible as guests. It was as if we were viewed as an obligation rather than welcomed visitors. This was a stark contrast to the rest of our three-week journey across Scotland, where we were consistently met with warmth, friendliness, and genuine hospitality in every shop, cafe, restaurant and hotel.nnThe dining experience was also underwhelming. The food was decent but not remarkable, especially given the prices—£45 for a two-course dinner, £30 for a burger in the bar, and drinks that were overpriced without being memorable. Given the majestic setting and the promise of a luxury experience, the lack of personal connection and attentive service was profoundly disappointing.nnAtholl Palace has all the potential to be a world-class destination—it has the ambiance, the history, and the breathtaking setting. But until they prioritize guest service, warmth, and genuine hospitality—like we experienced at other Scottish hotels—the experience will never live up to the grandeur of the surroundings.nnWe truly hope the management will take this feedback to heart. A smile, a warm greeting, and the feeling of being valued as a guest could transform this hotel from simply beautiful to truly unforgettable
Stayed here for a night on our way back to Edinburgh and it’s really nice. They have a nice indoor pool and sauna with game rooms too. We ate in the bar for dinner and it was excellent as was the service. The buffet breakfast I had the next morning was probably the best I had the 10 days we were in Scotland. I highly recommend Atholl Palace Hotel
Had a fantastic dinner. Lovely and friendly staff. Met the manager who was very charming. Special shout out to Elaine who was amazing. Asset to the hotel. Drove us back on our hotel. Would recommend this hotel. Excellent service
