I went out of the way to try the Artisan Bakery pastries and was really hoping they'd be as good as some reviews say. Unfortunately the pastry is almost cardboard like, taste stale to the point that I wouldn't be surprised if one could hammer a nail with it... Purchased a spinach & ricotta roll horrible flavour, adding some basic spices would make a huge difference and almond & raspberry pastry, which looked like entire bowl of pastry with a teaspoon of the filling. If in the area I'd advise against especially that Beyond Bread is just round the corner and sell cakes and sandwiches tasting so much better than what is sold in Artisan. Two stars for their attempt at creating gluten free pastries, unfortunately the result disappoints.
I bought two items: a slice of vegetarian pizza and a sausage roll. Both were severely tasteless.
I came upon this place unexpectedly when I had to go to London. It's a lovely little gem. I was overwhelmed by the choice of breads and cakes available, not something I normally have, when we saw the menu we stayed for lunch. The staff were helpful and polite. The bread I bought to bring home was delicious, but not cheap, this is too be expected for freshly baked Gluten Free bread. Lunch was delicious, priced accordingly and the staff were great, the food was a bit slow coming, but then it is made fresh, rather than thrown in a microwave. The only downside was the cakes. As I don't get the option very often we bought three cake slices to share at home. Two the coffee and the red velvet were shared that night and were both stale. The lemon drizzle was eaten the next day and was lovely, although was it saved being stale by the drizzle? Looking forward to going back, but with an informed choice.
Really delicious baked goods - all gluten free. But you can also get pancakes, eggs, sausage and other classics. I ordered a really tasty green juice as well. There coffee is great too. As a gluten-free eater this place feels like Christmas! And those who are not gluten-free don't miss a thing!
One of my favourite GF experiences? My partner who is a celiac loved it as she had a diverse selections. The restaurant food was great, nice clear urban atmosphere with an simple rustic San Francisco vibe to it. Highly recommend for anyone interested in Gluten Free Cuisine or just curious!
Went in this afternoon - just one person eating in there. No one behind the counter and the owner sitting talking to someone at the back of the room. I stood by the counter, waiting patiently to buy several items. He looked at me and carried on talking... I left. Not for the first time. With a daughter on a gluten free diet the concept is just brilliant and the food is great - how much better would the experience be if there were attentive, pro-active, interested people serving behind the counter. No matter how good the food, I certainly won't visit again. They only get a star at all 'cause I can't publish otherwise... A short walk away on Highbury Corner St Paul's Road is Sawyer and Gray - easily the best coffee for miles and gluten free cakes and bread baked in-house by a very talented team - go there!
Attentive waiter. Good size food portion but my meal wasn't heated through - some cold and some warm. You have to be careful reheating rice and meat. Hence the 2 stars. I'm coeliac so glad for a gluten free cafe, however there's something lacking in this place. But I would come back and give it another go.
I'm very torn about this review. On the one hand, they have a great looking gluten free menu, the eggs royale were tasty and the coffee potent. On the other hand, the service was appalling: unfriendly as in not friendly, rather than rude, couldn't get anyone's attention to order or pay. The latter really diminished the experience of the former and I don't see myself going back. Plus, the only restroom and baby changing facility has plenty of mould... I don't see changing my baby's nappy there regardless of how offensive it smells.
Meat cooked on the same toaster as grilled sandwiches. Terrible as I don't eat meat & watched the waitress fry bacon, then grilled my cheese sandwich on the same fryer. When confronted about this, she said most people eat bacon so they don't mind. I actually laughed at her stupid comment. Rude service. Won't be going back as there are better gluten free establishments just down the road with friendly, helpful staff.
Bought two loaves of your delicious bread in Wholefoods yesterday and felt compelled to post a review - it's without a doubt the best GF bread I've ever eaten. Have never found GF bread that tastes good without having to toast it but yours tastes like a normal loaf of delicious fresh, squidgy normal bread! I had the olive and rosemary and the multi-seed loaf and both were superb. Will definitely be buying again! Thank you
