I recently purchased a Ford Puma ST from Arnold Clark and it has been one of the most stressful, frustrating, and disappointing experiences I’ve ever had with a dealership.nnFrom the moment I received the vehicle, it was clear that something was seriously wrong. The wheels had been poorly refurbished, with dangerously sharp edges on the diamond cut finish, sharp enough to cause injury. The paint was uneven and poorly finished. More concerningly, three out of four tyres had visible sidewall damage, making the car outright unsafe to drive. No responsible inspection should ever have passed this vehicle as roadworthy.nnThe issues didn’t end there. The car had damage to both front doors and the plastic cladding, along with bent metal on the sill underneath, exposing bare metal that will rust if left untreated. This is not minor cosmetic wear and tear – it is significant structural damage that should have been disclosed upfront.nnBefore purchase, I specifically asked whether the car had any prior damage or repairs and was told “no.” That was completely untrue.nnWhen I raised these issues, Arnold Clark made no attempt to resolve them. I was not offered replacement tyres, repairs, or even a proper discussion. The only response was to demand the car back and issue a refund – no apology, no accountability, no effort to put things right. That approach raises very real questions about whether the dealership already knew the true condition of the vehicle and chose to ignore it.nnHad I kept the car, I would have been forced to replace all four tyres immediately at a cost of over £800, pay for a full wheel refurbishment, and address the structural damage before it worsened. The so-called “Arnold Clark Used Car Standards” clearly failed in this case – and if this vehicle passed those checks, then those standards are not only inadequate but outright dangerous.nnTo be told by a salesperson, “I’m sorry it’s not up to your standards,” was patronising and insulting. This is not about “standards” – it’s about safety, honesty, and trust. Supplying a car with unsafe tyres, sharp unfinished wheels, and undeclared structural damage is unacceptable.nnI will be seeking advice from Trading Standards, the Motor Ombudsman, and Citizens Advice. Customers should be aware of the serious risks of trusting Arnold Clark’s “approved” used cars.
Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Gordon O’Hara from BYD Ayr for making burying my new car so easy, first class from start to finish looked at it Monday drove it home Friday. Had big red Bow on the bonnet when I collected it, he went through everything with me before I left it was an absolute pleasure all the way through, the car Dolphin Surf Boost is amazing absolutely love it great car with lots of tech, great to drive and I absolutely love the colour!!! I have been to a couple of arnold clark show rooms over 12 years to buy a car, but I have to say my experience at Ayr BYD was just great.nRyan who i was dealing with was very polite, professional, knowledgeable and helped me through the process, whilst never being pushy, unlike other Arnold clarks I have visited.nTest drove the car on the Saturday, and by Tuesday I had my trade in complete, finance sorted and was driving away in my new car.nOverall so happy and delighted with the service from arnold clark BYD Ayr, and Ryan who is a credit to himself and arnold clark BYD Ayr. Keep drinking the Bovril !! Thanks again.
I’ve purchased vehicles from other Arnold Clark branches in the past, but the customer service was never quite strong enough to bring me back to the same location. This time, however, my experience at Ayr BYD has been completely different. The level of service I received here has been outstanding, and it’s the first time I can honestly say I’ll be returning to the same branch in the future.nnMy Product Consultant Gordon took the time to listen to what I was looking for, shortlisted some suitable cars for me to review at my own pace and never made me feel rushed or pressured. The buying process itself was smooth and straightforward. Gordon took time to explain everything thoroughly and make sure any questions I had were answered. The car was delivered into branch in a few days and was ready for me to drive away shortly thereafter. Gordon ensured that I was comfortable with the features in the new car and checked in later in the day to see how I got on. From start to finish, the customer experience was fantastic.nnI’m super pleased with my new car and I feel confident that if I need support or servicing in the future, this branch will look after me. Thank you to the whole team at Ayr BYD - I’ll definitely be coming back for my next car and recommending this branch and Gordon! to others!
I had spotted a car I liked and spoke to Allan Aird one of the sales team, he was very friendly and helpful the whole time, explained everything clearly. I collected my car a few days later and couldn't be happier. Would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a new car.
