Awesome pub!! One of the best, or probably THE best chicken roast I have ever had. Highly recommend. It had that old school east London vibe and great outdoor area too.
Went to The Approach for a pint and food after work. Nice calm atmosphere in the pub. Lots of beer and cider choice on tap. Food menu was written on a chalk board at the bar which was a fun touch, got the soy + harissa chicken supreme, halloumi and quinoa and deep fried artichokes. All dishes were delicious and pricing was good for the great quality!
I’ve always enjoyed your pub and have been plenty of times, but I recently had an experience that left me feeling quite unwelcome as a guest. Last Sunday, I booked a table for 8 people a week in advance, expecting to have a comfortable, relaxing afternoon with my family. However, after just 1.5 hours at the table, we were asked to move to accommodate another reservation. I found this to be quite surprising — 1.5 hours simply isn’t enough time for a group of 8 to eat, drink, and enjoy the experience, especially when we had booked. Neither at point of booking were we told it was only for 1.5 hours. To make matters worse, we ended moving to four different tables during our visit, including some of us having to relocate with our mains, which really disrupted our meal. Eventually, we gave up and decided to leave. This was the first time I’ve experienced something like this at your pub, which made it all the more disappointing, as it’s usually such a great place to visit.
The Approach Tavern is a great pub with a nice laid back vibe. In the summer, the beer garden is always busy but still feels intimate. There is a good range of beers on tap, soft and other drinks. The food is absolutely delicious, and there are quite a few vegetarian options. On Tuesdays there's a pub quiz inside, which is a lot of fun, but you can barely hear the excitement from the more laid back beer garden. Would very much recommend for couples, friends or anyone looking for a tasty dinner or a quick pint in the sun. It's easy walking distance from both Bethnal Green tube and Victoria Park
Bethnal Green  £6.15 Pillars Pilsner The Approach Tavern is located on a tree lined street near the Bonner Gate entrance to Victoria Park in the East End of London. The nearest Tube is Bethnal Green, it’s a five minute walk to get here. This pub was built in 1860, in 1942 the pub was hit by a German bomb during the blitz and subsequently was rebuilt after the war. It is estimated that during this war, 80 tons of bombs fell on the Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green. This is a roomy high ceilinged traditionally decorated one bar pub. Although knocked through into one bar, there are distinct front, side and rear sections. The servery is centrally located and acts as a stunning centrepiece to this Bethnal Green boozer. Around the walls are photographs of the pub’s rich history, huge mirrors and two Tv’s. The seating consists of sturdy pews and traditional chairs around rustic worn tables. At the left of the bar is an open fire to warm your cockles in the winter. At the front of the pub is a patio seating area with ample benches. This pub also boasts a contemporary art gallery which is located on the first floor. The beer line up is excellent and offers beers from London breweries, continental classics and three cask ales. I decided on a Pillars Pilsner by E17 brewers @pillarsbrewery , my pint was great, price point was a smidge above average. The food menu is displayed on a massive chalk board and choices change regularly, Fish & Chips costs £15, Roasts are available on a Sunday. I arrived just after 7pm on a pleasant Saturday evening in June. The pub was busy inside and packed on the patio at the front. The atmosphere was upbeat and buzzy whilst maintaining a local pub feel. The service was on point, the team here were friendly and welcoming. My last visit here was seven years ago and thankfully not much has changed. This is a fantastic East End pub that offers a marvellous pub experience, @theapproachtavern is a must visit if you’re in the area. ℹ Info correct on visiting 22.06.24
The roast was absolutely delicious. The gravy has this interesting soy sauce umami flavour wish there had been more! Red cabbage instead of white cabbage and whole green beans instead of peas was a welcome change. Service was a bit confusing table service or not? and there were no menus left at the end of the night so our big group had to share one. At 7:09 we went to order dessert and got told the kitchen closed at 7. More communication would be great! As someone who also works at a pub in East London it’s standard practice to go around before the kitchen closes on a Sunday to inform those with roasts to get their desserts in while it’s open. I would really recommend coming here for a roast though! So delicious.
Classic pub for a pint or meal, or both. Charming interior appointments include a genuine fireplace, plus indoor and outdoor seating. We enjoyed our beers and some fish and chips, plus the risotto plate. You order at the counter, and they bring the food to you. Prices are reasonable and service was prompt and friendly. Stop by for a enjoyable break.
My favourite pub. I come weekly. Selection of drinks, staff, food, fellow patrons, history, everything is perfect at this pub. Feels like home; I can spend hours here.Food: 5/5
We've been a few times for pints but finally managed to try the food too! We had the lamb, veggie and beef burgers outside and have to say that the beef burger was the highlight. Friendliest staff and nice dog friendly environment alwaysFood: 5/5
It's a wonderful place. My friends invited me last Tuesday to Halloween pop quiz. It was fun. The food is tasty, team is friendly, atmosphere is warm, decorations for Halloween are really creative and stylish, they guy who led the pop quiz was also fun. I also adored seeing a pictures of the pub on the wall, I appreciated the pub survived bombardment of London in WWII and now is flourishing. It gives me a lot of hope for my nation, as the Ukrainian. Thank you, dear team, for a nice night.
