"The charm of this authentic dog-friendly country inn is apparent from the moment you step inside. This historic listed timber-framed structure dates from circa 1650 and was formerly the Shoebury Post Office and Blacksmiths Shop along with the adjoining thatched Wheelwrights. Flagstone floors and wooden oak beams create a traditional English feel and friendly ambience. Cosy up next to the roaring fire in winter or make the most of the outside seating area, which is perfect for a refreshing tipple in summer. This is a traditional pub that delivers all year round, with great food and no loud music or televisions blaring."

Is there an option for 6 stars?? This place is fantastic! The food was of the highest standard and very generously portioned, the drinks were well priced including the pubs very own pilsner! doggies are welcome inside and out and they even offer a little something for them on the menu! If you want to relax, eat great food and enjoy the warm atmosphere?! Please give this place a try! Will come back time and time again!
Typical local pub facing a busy roundabout on the A127 between Thorpe Bay and Shoeburyness...nor really the calmest environment, especially if weather permitting, you're sitting outside. Nothing extraordinary, not a country pub, not a gastro-pub, not a trendy pub, not a micro-pub... Just a nice local pub with its daily local customers. Sometimes difficult to get a table and very tiny counter too. Selection of food ok.
Fantastic Sunday dinner, great service, just a shame the about the chairs ! Common guys upgrade your seats and everyone will be much more comfortable, stay twice as long and sped more money !
Not a good experience last night at the Angel. The waitress knocked over my drink which soaked my shorts and the rest ran off the table onto my dogs head. I was given a reluctant apology and a roll of absorbent paper to clean it all up. I would have expected the waitress to clear the mess up! After drying my dog and standing in my pants in the toilet using the hot air blower to dry my shorts I went to the bar. This obviously spoiled my evening and I suggested to the bar staff that perhaps as a gesture of good will they should buy us a round of drinks which would actually amounted to 2 pints of larger and they got quite surly the female staff not the young man who was very nice. I requested to speak to the manageress who was equally unhelpful and implied that I was lucky to get the replacement beer that they knocked over. So we left and when I got home I washed my shorts and my little dogs head. Now I will never recommend the Angel to anyone. Was this bad review and the loss of a customer not worth turning round for a couple of beers? These folk have no idea about customer care and perhaps should improve their poor attitude. The picture is my dog before he got larger on his head.
The staff are friendly. They have a good range of beer and pub snacks. The outside and inside seems to be dog friendly with water and treats for your pet. We had 2 pints, chips and olives for around £15 which is very reasonable price these days.
Vibrant atmosphere and pleasant country pub/restaurant near Shoeburyness in Essex. Varied and very reasonably priced menu. Food was plentiful, hot and the service and staff excellent and attentive. Nothing negative to report and highly recommended
Friendly staff and good atmosphere. Waited too long for the goats cheese starter - quite good when it turned up. But the vegetarian ratatouille offering was lackluster and tasteless. Nice roast potatoes though. Could do better!
Popped in for lunch and had a fab meal. I had the calves liver and mash. Shame it doesn't come with some veg. Thankfully my partner had the Steak and Ale pie which did come with loads of veg. A great little find and reasonably priced too. We will definitely be back soon.
Great local place for a bite to eat and a couple of drinks. The special board is always good and their Sunday roast is one of the best. As for the staff they are welcoming and friendly.
I had lunch with 3 friends. Not been here for years and I was pleased that the food has remained excellent. Huge sandwiches, lots of choice on the menu, interesting specials, and good choice of drinks. I would definitely visit again.
