"Alston Bar & Beef is named after the long forgotten main street of Grahamston village so enter the main entrance of Glasgow Central Station on Gordon St & Alston's discreet door is on the left just past the coffee shop. Follow the stairs down to the underground arches and a bar with a wide range of gin, each uniquely garnished & served to perfection. Glaswegians are spoilt for choice when it comes to great places to eat & Alston serves the top 1% of beef on the market. Choose from a selection of 28-35 day dry-aged steaks, including the Chateaubriand to share or Glasgow’s favourite, the fillet. Our beef is carefully chosen from accredited farms from the Tweed Valley each renowned for producing quality beef, full of flavour & tenderness."

I just want to say that the Sunday roast has a timing window: I was told it wasn't available after 6 PM, but nowhere on the online menu via Google Maps or Alston's official website says this. To anyone coming to this restaurant from abroad like myself, take precautions and get here early if you want the Sunday roast. Other than that, there was nothing wrong with my meal: the steak was cooked excellently and the medium-rare is impeccable - quite possibly the best medium-rare I've ever seen.
Had a drinks at the bar and dinner and it was great. Lots of gin and interesting cocktails. It is located just inside the train terminal and is underground and has a speakeasy vibe to it. Reservations are recomemdedFood: 5/5
Sublime dining & excellent service centred around the most amazing Tweed Valley beef cuts and alluring cocktails.Food: 5/5
The Sunday Roast was absolutely delicious; the beef in particular was full of flavour. Super friendly service from both Lesley and Tiff. Will definitely be back!Food: 5/5
Food was delicious; Service by students was very good but not the service by unfriendly cold professional staff and unwelcoming manager therefore we gave only tips to the student waiter; Delivery of the food too slow and disorganized; Environment in the basement of the train station without windows is fun but far too noisy, not comfortable at all in order to discuss. Mix feeling, not sure we would come back to such a place…
Often overlooked due to its somewhat unusual Central Station location, it’s also underrated. There aren’t many great steak restaurants in Glasgow and Alston is certainly up there with the best. A somewhat quirky entrance leads you to a subterranean cellar venue with arches, marble and monochrome accents. Reminds me of a luxurious NY hotel or vintage gin bar. Arriving on a damp, dull and thoroughly dreich Sunday we took advantage of the fairly priced set menu 2 courses £25 / 3 courses £30 and were not disappointed. Portion size was ample and the beef was tender and rich. Vegetables all cooked perfectly and a decadent gravy pulling it all together and warming ones metaphorical cockles. Desserts were beautifully plated and rounded off a comfortable, competent meal. Having been before and had some fantastic steak et vino I can heartily recommend. Parking: Very limited nearby. Better to use underground or train
Visited on a quiet weekday for lunch. It was a bit tricky to find the entrance as Google Maps pinned the restaurant on another side of Glasgow Central Station. The staff were very friendly, and the food was amazing! I loved my medium well D-rump, and the herby sauce recommended by the host was SUBLIME! The dark chocolate brownie dessert was equally brilliant. Balanced flavored and in a hearty portion. Thank you! I will definitely visit again.
What a gorgeous quirky restaurant... A little hard to find as its in the entrance of the train station but the food was amazing... Loved the menu and the staff were very friendly and helpful when I asked them about the unusual cheese with figs on the starter menu... The chef actually brought us a big chunk of it with crackers to take home... So lovely and we'll be back
I did order cote de boeuf and was perfectly blue. Great quality of meat and chef actually can cook will come back for sure when next time in Glasgow. Only big minus £6 per salad is ridiculous and 6.40 for pint is a London price but well steak was great so congrats for chef :. Also getting someone to pay took too much time so I have to give 1 star less. For that and pricing.
Had a lovely lunch here on a Thursday in December with my work friend. We both picked from the lunch menu and both had the roast chicken with mash and haggis bon bon. It takes about 20 mins as is cooked fresh but totally worth it - so tasty. Chicken breat comes on the bone. Serve is also great, attentive but not overbearing. It was quietish at lunch with a couple of larger Christmas party tables but atmosphere was still nice.
