I called here for lunch, and was greatly impressed, not only with the quality off the food but the laid back atmosphere too. There is an intimate feel about the place with a small but exceptionally well executed menu. The food is very well presented using seasonally available produce sourced locally. I will definitely be going back, and can recommend for those who want a meat free option from a well thought out menu that doesn't try to imitate a traditional restaurant menu by simply substituting items. Staff were very helpful and courteous without being overly friendly. We'll worth a visit for meat free diners and those who want to try a different approach to cuisine.
In my opinion the best vegetarian restaurant in town. It has plenty of vegan and gluten free options as well. As a fun fact the name comes from the year the vegetarian society has been founded in Manchester. If you are vegetarian you have to try their battered halloumi, it is to die for. The prince range is medium-high but you definitely pay for the quality. I am not vegetarian but every now and then I love treating myself with this delicious plant based food.
Really delicious vegetarian food in a modern setting. Came to this place about five years ago when it was in its old location but it's really improved since then. The flavours were delicious! They really focus on vegetables here and make them the star and bring out the flavour of the delicious seasonal ingredients
Wonderful restaurant with incredible vegetarian and vegan food. Even if you aren't a vegetarian this interesting food is worth it, just for the experience. I experienced food I'd never heard of before and tasted flavours I'd never tasted before. Beautiful interior too with the floating saplings and walls of glass. Overall the only drawback was that it's a little pricey
Service was a little slow, but the food was exceptional. The chef brought out the best of the ingredients and kept the dishes healthy. There are many vegan options too. My non-vegetarian friends were also very impressed with the food. The cocktails and selection of local beers are also impressive. It is on the expensive side but the food is higher end in execution and presentation.
Absolutely unbelievable food, you definitely don’t miss the meat. Each plate is a work of art and it doesn’t stop at the food, the cocktails are beautiful and the decor is classy and tasteful. Not to mention the service was incredibly quick, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who has imagination when it comes to food.
UPDATE: I had initially given 1847 only three stars but then changed my mind as that was maybe a little harsh. I feel that 3.5 * would be more appropriate Only recently having figured out where 1847 had relocated to, we decided to give the new premises a try since we were in the area... We started with some cocktails which were nice but not especially memorable, except maybe for the Thai Spicy Paloma which was unusual. The new bar area is OK but feels rather 'cold' and a little clinical. Unfortunately this 'feel' continued as we progressed to our table. The acoustics of the dining area are such that noise levels quickly rose to "school canteen". I also felt that the tables were a little crammed together which again didn't help towards the experience . Food however can't be faulted! The food is still as good as I remember from years ago. So if you purely go for the gustatory experience then you won't be disappointed... If you however want a cosy, romantic dinner then probably best to check out Grafene around the corner who also offer a Vegetarian Menu. And a last tip, stay away from the 'House White'... Showing the card the waitress seemed to indicate that the house wine was a Viognier wrongly spelled as Voignier but it tasted as a pretty poor Chardonnay. Summarised: food is excellent, but the experience is let down by the new premises I'm afraid.
Food was divine, I could have eaten it all again once I'd finished even though I was stuffed. Drinks where lush, service was a little slow but it was a busy night and the price was well matched with the quality of the food. I will be going back as much as possible to try all menu. Loved it.
Food was insanely good. Absolutely sublime. Staff were friendly. Interior is clean and modern. Already planning to go again.
Great location in central Manchester. Lovely music and nice ambience. Smallest hand dryer I have ever seen in the ladies! Overpriced... under tasty... I had a green tea for £2.75. I went for the 2 courses for £22 option and had the cauliflower main. It looked amazing! The sauce was flavoursome but there were very strong flavours which didn’t seem to blend very well. A big mouthful of ginger in one bite then nothing the next... The cauliflower tasted very bland. The salt and pepper pots look cute with corks in the top but I couldn’t get the cork out to use the salt. I had the chocolate cake for dessert. It looked amazing! Again, lacking in flavour. I think it’s the first time I have been disappointed with a vegan dessert. I loved everything about this place except the food unfortunately... I have said it’s overpriced as I didn’t enjoy the food. If I was more satisfied I probably wouldn’t have minded about the price.
