Visited as a part of a party of 12 on our works Christmas meal. We had difficulty booking, having made four attempts to book in October with a deposit, finally they took our booking & full payment for meals from the £29.99 set menu.
Having arrived for our 7.30 booking & been seated, drinks orders were taken.. they run a 'tab' system regarding drinks, so each party member monitored their own spend.
Starters arrived quite promptly, garlic prawns were 4 small prawns on a 4inch square piece of toast, 2 cherry tomatoes & some shredded cucumber.
One of our party had special dietary requirements & was served mushrooms, despite the restaurant being advised of her exact requirements.
It then took around an hour for our mains to be brought out.. those who had the traditional turkey dinner, there was no bacon on the honey chipolatas, mine were burnt & hidden in the cranberry sauce/gravy obviously in the hope I wouldn't notice. The roast potatoes were also burnt, with no hint of thyme. There was 2 slices of turkey meat, which seemed processed, 4 roast potatoes, a slice of stuffing, 2 chipolatas, a scoop of roast veg which seemed to be carrots, swede & parsnip, & a small amount of broccoli.
Those who had steak or salmon were happy with their meals.
It was then 9.45 before desserts arrived, & yet again the lady with dietary requirements had to question whether her brownie was gluten free as requested, it wasn't so had to be returned, they also served the replacement gluten free one with the amaretto ice cream, this lady has a nut allergy, which had been explained to the staff but was ignored.
The warm brownie was not warm.
One of our party had the Christmas pudding, it was chewy & obviously microwaved.
2 of our party had the cheese & biscuits which consisted of 6 small crackers And 3 tiny pieces of cheese no bigger than an inch triangles, no butter & a raspberry and some cranberries to garnish the fact that there was hardly any cheese.
After this a few of our party had to rush off for travel home, many of us had been working all day & were not expecting such a late evening.
Those who were left tallied up their respective drinks bills & awaited the bill, only to be presented with a bill for over £200.
We'd spent approximately £57 on drinks between all of us, after 20 minutes of questioning the bill & it being sent back & forth between our party & the staff, it was admitted that they'd charged us again for the meals we'd already paid for, & also added on a £40 service charge, which we had not been advised of.
Having spent almost £400 as a party in this establishment it is disappointing that they seemed to try & gain even more money from us.
The service, albeit slow, was good, staff were friendly & helpful, & it's a real shame wait staff have to deal with issues that arise from the service order point.
Unfortunately due to the many issues with our evening none of us would recommend this venue to anyone, it isn't good value for money, & the 'mistakes' with dietary requirements are inexcusable, along with the 'mistakes' on the bill our evening was a catalogue of disappointments.
Not recommended.

Great food and great service! Celebrated a birthday with a large group so we had to pre order our food from a set menu. For my main I had the 8oz fillet medium, it was cooked to perfection, decent portion of chips and with the creamy peppercorn sauce made this one of the best steak meals I've had. Garlic bread starter was good, the chocolate cake with amaretto ice cream was delicious. The service was on point, i cannot recommend this place enough! Park in the John Lewis car Park after 5pm as it's a short walk and only £2.50

Fantastic steak. I'm cautious eating steak anywhere else now as I always compare it to 1573's! Took some Americans. They loved it too.

Wetherspoons quality food at 3 times the price. The staff were more interested in closing and going home so we didn't get our deserts.
