We have just returned from a fantastic family holiday and I am sat here now reminiscing on our visit. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by friendly helpful and informative staff who assisted us to our pitch. The sight was relaxed but controlled in a friendly manner. The fields were split up into a lively, family and a quiet field. We chose the family field and we're told the noise should be kept to a minimum after 10.30 as so the children could get to sleep easily and the parents to be able to chill out a bit afterwards. This worked great and we had a fantastic time with some of the other campers. The views were fantastic and the amount of stars visible at night was amazing. We were there for the bank holiday weekend which was busy but dealt with by the staff. The toilets were cleaned regularly but unfortunately not treated as well as they should have been by some of the guests. This was dealt with quickly and efficiently by management and cleaning staff and the toilets left clean again. We had a great time and can't wait to come back. Thank you Herston! Stayed August 2016, travelled with family
Nice location, but the facilities were not cleaned often enough for the demand of such a large campsite. Flooded and filthy seemed to be the default state. Bank holiday overcrowding gave the ambience of a Glastonbury festival. There is also bar on site which blared a drum beat across the campsite into the early hours of Sunday morning which was not particularly appropriate. If you have low standards, this place will be fine for you. Stag do's would be most welcome.
Our family with 3 caravans in total stayed at Herston from August 11th to 19th inclusive and this is our 10th visit. We will not be using this site again as the facilites were very overcrowded and the showers did not run away thus causing flooding in the toilets ladies. Also on serviced pitches, the drains were totally blocked under the taps. It appears that it is only money that is now important to the proprietors as all the caravans were crammed in, giving no privacy whatsover. Extremely dissappointed as this site is in a perfect location and should the owners decide to lough back into the site some of the profits to make improvements we would consider returning but not until this happens. In the camping field where my daughter was staying she was totally blocked in and when they came to leave to go home there was no-one offical around to help them get out of their pitch. This was again due to overcrowding to make more profit. We do feel very sad to have to report these issues but feel people need to know before considering booking this site.
My girlfriend and I stopped at herstons and had a brilliant time, the staff were extremely quick at answering queries prior to going. We found a really nice level pitch, the shop is really well equipped although slightly expensive, the bar was good fun and pretty average prices, the showers and toilets are clean and all you need to get clean, a word of advice take some sandals or flip flops, it is a campsite there is a field and mud and it does get spread around including the showers. There's every thing you need locally, shops, pubs and even a night club in swanage centre, cant wait to go back in 2010.
Being extremely nervous about what to expect after reading some reviews I was quite relieved to find things weren't that bad after all. When we arrived our little girl was hungry so we went into the restaurant to find that a carvery was on. My wife and I weren't hungry so asked if they would make her up a plate of veggies and some gammon. They did and didnt even charge us for it which I thought was most kind. The shower blocks are kept clean, I've seen a cleNer on most occasions giving them a good scrub however they are tired and the new block looks like its been there for 10th years atleast. However hot water and working toilets. The campsite can't help other peoples slobbish behavior and disregard for other campers, I guess thatd unfortunately what people reflect on when posting reviews. We're staying in a yurt which is cosy and worth the money. However again it seems a little tired and could probably do with a spring clean.
Stayed in the Yurts. damp, smelled musky. there's no ventilation unless you keep the doors opened. kept hitting our heads on the door frame on the way out. terrible sleeping beds. we were there for two nights but we got fed up after the first night and left. prices were high. fights broke out in the club house. DONT GO HERE. if you're going for the beach near by which was a nice beach stay somewhere else.
Bloody great! We were a stag party of 14 and found the staff very friendly and accomadating. Beach and country walks nearby. We stayed in Mongolain yurts which felt very luxurious. would recommend it to anyone...
