I had an interesting experience at this place. I eat halal, vegetarian and vegan foods. When we arrived, we asked if the food was halal. The server told us she was unsure so she asked the manager. She came back and said the beef is not halal but the chicken is. HOWEVER, the chicken is cooked in the same oil as the beef, therefore it CANNOT be eaten as a “halal” option. I also asked if any of the food had alcohol or wine vinegar. She went again to ask the manager : When she returned, she said the soy sauce in-house has no alcohol, but the takeaway soy sauce DOES have alcohol. Also, some of the foods HAVE alcohol in so she said to ask her about those options when we would come to order our food. The Salmon was safe to eat so we ordered the salmon selection plate, and the dessert pancakes which came with raspberry sauce. The salmon selection was much smaller than we thought. The bowl was smaller than my hand : There is a conveyor belt with different foods on it, and the prices of the foods did not match the prices on the menu. I asked one of the servers why this was, and she did not know. On the menu, the cost of the food on the conveyor belt is colour coded. However, we never found out why those items were so overpriced compared to what was written in the menu. The food itself was tasty, and you could tell it was made with quality fresh ingredients. I just wish there was more of it. I did like how you can see the chefs preparing the food while you eat. I would recommend trying this place at least once for the experience, but definitely split the bill as it can get quite expensive if you want a hearty meal.
Honestly I adore Sushi, this place is perfectly situated upstairs in the Arndale which Is convenient, the staff are lovely and you can sometimes watch the chefs prep your meals and sushi for later it takeaways. There's a choice of Booth or stool if you have back issues which I do and they've accommodated me twice. You order your food only over an app which is quite limiting, if your phone dies or you don't have a newer model sadly it doesn't seem like you could eat here. The menus have a fun variety but when it comes to sushi itself it's quite limited, you won't find eel or octopus, nothing extravagant. Just salmon, tuna, crab and veggies. Which is a let down. But quality wise the food tastes clean, fresh and is enjoyable. But sadly you'll find yourself spending up to £4-£5 for 3 pieces of sushi sometimes and honestly that ruins it a little, it's quite expensive for a place with such little offer, I'd only feel comfortable with that price if it was a popular sushi chef from Japan. Its a fun experience if you don't mind spending a lot or having little options for sushi. Their award system makes up for it only a little but they sneakily force you to buy 1 more dish just to get the 1 extra point needed to earn a free dish, which is very sneaky. I'll still go, but it'll be rarely.
The starr are all so friendly! Everyone we talked to or helped up was really upbeat and quick, the food was really nice portions are a bit small but it helps when you want to try a but of everythingFood: 4/5
Incredibly welcoming staff. A lovely atmosphere and as always an incredible array of food. The Yo fries are a must buy!Food: 5/5
I live 5 minutes away and, as someone who over the last few years would stop by to get a takeaway or order via Deliveroo, all I can say is that I’ve been observing the progressive decline. At first it was Great. Then it was Good. Then it became just OK but when you’re hungry you give it a go. And today it was barely acceptable. The thing is that when you regularly order from a place for a few years you can tell the difference. And I’m not talking about the difference in price, which in itself could be explained, I am talking about the quality and all the other tiniest details. Not what it used to be.
If it was not for Kirsty I would have never come back to this restaurant again. The manager was rude from the word go. He did not even tell me that kids are free today. All the staff were anxious around him, I wasn’t even offered water 20 mins into sitting down at the table. Kirsty came over and apologised profusely and saved the day. She is definitely manager material. Kid-friendliness: Kids ate for free
My recent visit to Yo Sushi was an experience marred by multiple disappointments. While the food itself was somewhat enjoyable, the overall ambiance and attention to detail left much to be desired. One of the most concerning aspects was the blatant disregard for hygiene standards observed during my meal. I witnessed staff members cutting plastic-wrapped cucumbers without bothering to remove the wrapping and then proceed to prepare it to be used in dishes without being washed raised serious concerns about the kitchen's cleanliness practices. Adding to my disappointment was the presentation of the pumpkin katsu curry, which fell far short of its advertised image. Instead of the carefully arranged dish depicted in the menu, what arrived at my table was a sloppy mess, with the curry carelessly poured over the rice, resulting in a mushy, unappetizing mixture. There wasn't any rice not drenched in the sauce picture attached. What's more, the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was further dampened by the worn-out and heavily scratched glasses and cutlery provided. This not only detracted from the dining experience but also gave the impression of a neglected establishment that did not match the prices listed on the bill. To top it off, the most concerning aspect of the entire ordeal was the stomach issues I developed after the meal. Having consumed nothing else that day, I can only attribute the discomfort to the food served at Yo Sushi. Especially having seen the cucumbers being prepared I am genuinely worries what else could have happened. While the sushi itself was tasty, the numerous issues encountered during my visit, including hygiene concerns, subpar presentation and discomfort afterward, left me disappointed and unlikely to return. Which is a shame as the staff were amazing and went out of their way to try and let us have a good time.
Disappointing experience compared to the last some I visited a couple of years ago. No water taps and no quirky bells to call for table service. The menu has been altered to suit the masses and is bland and uninspiring. Staff were lovely but the place seemed lacking in atmosphere and in need of a re vamp. I won't be returning and I'm sad as Yo Sushi used to be great but in my opinion it has lost its flare.
No longer affordable sushi. They don't do student discount so you'll end up spending over £40 on 5 dishes and still feel hungry. With the conveyor belt, half the menu isn't there so you'll just have to settle for the basic. The servers don't even ask you about what you want to drink, let alone any hot food that you now have to order from them, instead of easily using an app. If you want sushi, use anywhere else!!!
We enjoyed our meal here, but the service was a little slow with our drinks arriving after the food. It's not got much of an atmosphere which is probably more down to its location than anything else. We'd go back because the food is pretty consistent each time we visit.Food: 4/5
