Tafarn y Maes

This is a place worth travelling to. It's really nicely done up, and the food is extremely high level - amongst the absolute best experiences I've had in many years of eating around these parts. There's the usual pub classics like gammon with egg and pineapple which are flawlessly executed plus some more adventurous options like a stunning beetroot and goats cheese risotto. Don't leave without trying the black pudding scotch egg which is glorious.

We called in for a meal (in December) when we saw this pub had reopened and were made to feel welcome, it was a birthday treat for my husband and we liked the look and value of the 'set 3 course menu' - we ordered from this menu and our orders were taken and accepted. (We both ordered the roast beef). A lady came and told us 'they were expecting a large party in later, and were not sure if they would have enough beef, and asked if we would have steak instead of beef'. We agreed to have steak instead of beef as requested, and our food came, all food was good, though they did struggle with a gluten-free option for a pudding, and obviously didn't fully understand that as the posset was served with an ordinary shortbread biscuit. When we came to pay our bill was worked out using the normal menu prices for everything and suddenly was far higher than expected. We paid and left but feel very unhappy that it was at YOUR request we had steak instead of beef to help you out and then we paid full price on whole meal. As the pub was getting busy as we were ready to pay and leave, we did not complain, just paid and left, however it did somewhat spoil what should have been a very pleasant meal.

We as a family of 7 went to Tafarn y Maes last night to celebrate my father’s birthday. The service and food was fantastic. I recommend that once you visit, you will definitely return. 10/10 for everything p.s. Steak was fab 👍
