Williamson Art Gallery & Museum

About

Just 10 mins from the centre of Birkenhead, the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum has one of the best art collections in the North West of England.

Story

The Williamson Art Gallery and Museum is a family friendly space with changing contemporary exhibitions and collections reflecting the local heritage with an active education programme and supportive Friends charity, it is a "little" municipal art gallery (although has 14 galleries) that is rapidly gaining lots of attention for its community feel as well as the works on show.

There are several independent businesses housed within the space - an art supply shop, a second hand and new bookshop and cafe as well as the artisan craft and design shop run by the Wirral Museums Service Team.

Part of Wirral Council.

Products

Permanent exhibitions of Della Robbia Pottery, martime models, furniture from Arrowe Hall, oils and watercolours from the collections. We have a changing temporary exhibtion programme which includes the annual Williamson Open, the Wirral Met College Degree Show and much more.

The Williamson is an excellent gallery with varied collections in lovely surroundings and a great history, the gallery remains free to visit. There's regular classes for drop in art and craft, great for family time and often focusing on topical subjects, these are free (with a donations tub, but a donation towards the costs of materials is worth the quality family time) They often have musicians performing which is very relaxing in the gallery itself, and sometimes in the cafe. Constant updates to the collections on show so regular visits are recommended. The quad is coming along nicely and will be a great quiet spot to sit in when it is a little warmer. The parking is on site and free, with a good sized car park. Nice cafe too, with a gift shop offering unique gifts and cards. The building itself is lovely, with wheelchair access throughout. There's plenty of other classes and drop in events available. There's even a book club meeting. It is very well attended by people of all ages which indicates how entertaining it is. Also sells arts and craft supplies if a visit inspires you to have a go.

Wonderful exhibitions which change often. Fantastic cafe, bookshop, and gallery shop which sells work by local artists. The art equipment shop has high quality items at very reasonable prices. Lots of activities for children, families and adults! Easy disabled access. New outdoor space looks rather special
