Some great history around this part of London. Most people only know this person thanks to the Australian actor, Mel Gibson playing the part of this Scottish warrior in Braveheart. Memorial pointing to the place where he was executed, hung, drawn and quartered.
A Plaque for Wallace in London Not Quite a Braveheart Bonanza 3 out of 5 stars Calling all history lovers! You'll find a commemorative plaque dedicated to Sir William Wallace in London, near Smithfield Market. It's a thoughtful tribute to the Scottish hero, but if you're expecting a grand statue or epic battle reenactments, this might not be your cup of tea. Still, a cool little stop for a history buff on the go. Just don't forget to bring your reading glasses – the inscription might be a bit tough to decipher.
I just visit now and again when passing. It nice to see he still remembered. There a few other places near linked to William Wallace near.
Kind of out of the way but in a trendy area. Excellent food nearby. Simple plaque for such a complicated NONsubject.
It was so sad to see such a National Hero's memorial area is surrounded by the business property's. Easy access by the public transport. It's based right on the pavement. So no ticket is necessary. Just go and see.
A great memorial to a great man. 800 years later Scotland may finally get the freedom it deservesVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Monument to where William Wallace was killed, worth seeing if you pass the area but not really worth the visit otherwise. Plenty of restaurants/bars round about if you want to grab a quick drink/bite to eat
Located right outside the Smithfield's market you cannot miss this iconic landmark, especially if you seen the movie Braveheart.. freedommmm
This the approximate site for public executions of mostly heretics, dissenters and on the occasion, traitors and seditionaries. A gamut of killing techniques were employed assuring entertainment value for the onlookers. Two St.Andrew’s Crosses The Saltire and the Clan Wallace coat of arms appear on the plaque. Impeccably maintained on the hospital wall and located in a precinct overloaded with significant historical associations and markers.
Off the beaten path but we'll worth it to see for us. Zero tourist besides ourselves.
