There is one lift at Barking Station which is on platform 1,the platform for the Overground and for eastbound district line trains.For other platforms,go to the end of platform 1 where there is a slope to the subway for access to the other platforms.There are 8 in all.If in a wheelchair or on a small mobility scooter it's no problem but if using crutches it's probably easier to hop up and down the stairs;there are no escalators.The station is run by British Rail,not Transport for London.The ticket hall is home to a dry cleaner,a phone shop,W.H.Smith,a clock and watch repairer and a cafe with book exchange.There are two exits from the station;the one nearest the barriers brings you out by the taxi rank and eastbound buses.The Barking Dog ph is on the left next to a coffee shop.Turn left from the station for the Spotted Dog ph,buses to Ilford from the stop just past the Sotted Dog,and Barking Park,5-10 minutes walk.The right hand exit is next to the clock and watch man.Next but one to this exit is KFC,a chemist open until 8pm Monday-Friday and other shops.Across the road is Vicarage Fields Shopping Centre,a post box and a post office,among others.The right hand exit closes early,around 9.30pm.I've always found the station staff to be friendly and helpful.
WH Smith is quite good for its size and is open until around 7.30 pm.It is fairly easy to navigate in a wheelchair but not in a mobility scooter.There are two entrances,one from the ticket hall and the other from the street.
