Very poor fish and chips. The batter was dark brown, not crisp, wet and inedible. The fish itself was quite cold & not cooked. The chips were so wet, raw and starchy to the point within two minutes they stuck together and then trying to eat them resulted in splitting them and leaving cold mush. I thought after 20 minutes waiting for our food it would be good but it was not. I'm not scoring them 1, as I think they may be able to be better but were trying to cook far, far too much and the oil was not hot enough to even boil off the water on the chips. Finally, the oil appears it need a change as everything had a odd taint and the batter was dark and bitty not light & golden.

Best Fish & Chip lunch that I know of. Dine in or takeaway the fish is faultless, so good in fact that I can't bring myself to try anything else.

The best fish and chips ever the owners so pleasant and welcoming. The only negative thing, could be the lack of good manners and social skills on a couple of the waitresses.

As a commercial traveller I tend to end up having fish and chips at least twice a week, and over the many years I've been doing this I've probably bought them from over half the restaurants in the South West. It's difficult to experience food from so many different places without learning to tell the difference between good and awful. I've mentioned this because it means I can be quite hard to please when it comes to fish and chips. Where most people have a favourite chip shop within 10 miles of their home, every day I have a much much larger selection of places to choose from. Subsequently it means that just because I may criticise some aspect of a restaurant, that doesn't necessarily mean that it is horrendously bad, it's just not as good as the best I've experienced. Anyway ,The fish from here is amazing. The fillets are large enough for most people and covered in a very nice batter that's crisp, but not "Gum cuttingly" hard (A lot of shops get that wrong). The chips aren't the best I've had, but are still well above average. From the taste of their food I'd say they use pretty high quality oil in their friars, and change it more regularly than the average chip shop. All in all I would say they offer very acceptable food at a reasonable price. They're definitely well within the top 10% of places I've eaten.
