Stopped at Steyning last Saturday and checked this pub. Unfortunately the experience was not the best… the pub had some customers but was not crowded there were some couples if tables left, so I ordered a couple of nibbles/tapas to share only to after pre-paying for all to then one of the staff members come to the table informing that the food will be delayed ended up coming over 35 mins after. When asked if at least then could bring the bread and butter, they said that was not possible and that everything will come together. When the nibbles/tapas arrived, was for great surprise about the portions when compared with the price paid, specially with the toasted bread that had 4 mini-slices. When asked to the staff about if that was all the bread or if would be any chance of bringing a bit more to try the dippings, their reply was that “these are the portions we now have due to the costs of living”. Not necessarily that we needed to eat more, but when you end up paying 4£ for 4 mini-slices of hard toasted bread and butter that is not even fresh, you can only expect better. I believe that the only good mention were the nachos, that had a good size portion for the price. Drinks price was average. Unfortunately it’s not a place that I would go back.
This has been a long-time favourite of ours, always reliably delicious food, a few extra treats and great service. I love the fact they cater to all tastes - mini-deserts, lunch specials, a full range of tapas style nibbles. Doesn't matter how I feel when I get there, I usually end up eating all 3 courses.
Had a very disappointing meal, BBQ spare ribs, well meat should fall off the bone right, we had a problem even cutting them. BBQ sauce, not.. tasted like Davy. Ambience lovely, such a shame about the food. Tried to mention to staff, but they just smiled and took no notice. Well sorry will not be going again, is a shame.
Lunch time menu. Chose liver and bacon veggies and mash. Excellent value at £8:50. Highly recommend, friendly staff and spacious surroundings.
Had an excellent meal there today. Mixed House Smoked Combo was very very good, it consisted of a very large quarter smoked chicken which was well smoked and extremely flavourful, Smokey wings and brisket which were also very good, the bbq sauce they were served with was sweet and Smokey, not harsh nor vinegary. Avocado chicken burger, excellent. White Horse burger also excellent. Staff were very accommodating and attentive, the atmosphere is lovely, plenty logs going on the fire, dogs allowed inside which we love. In summary, excellent smokehouse food, most reasonable prices for the quality and portions, nice pub atmosphere. Thankyou very much, we Will certainly be back again.
Beautiful decor, friendly staff. We only had soup, but having seen other dishes come out food looked amazing. Will definitely be back

Great range of drinks and excellent service. Interior is a good mix of old beams and modern decor.
Tiny kids’ portions. Poor customer service. My small 7-year-old finished her kids’ macaroni cheese in about 4 mouthfuls and was hungry. I mentioned it to the staff who were not interested. Shocking!
Light and airy well managed pub. Good menu.Plenty of choice and various options as to where to dine. Easy to access when visiting Steyning or passing by so good for meeting people.
