Great vibe! Full of people having a fab evening out. Decor updated, maybe new management? Had nibbles off the menu which were all yummy! So pleased to see life returning to normal. Can't wait to revisit...
Been here now a few times since it’s been taken over, well I can’t say enough good things about this place. Had Sunday roast a few times and it is the best in the area. The staff are totally amazing so helpful, friendly caring and nothing is too much trouble for them. Was there last night and the singer was brill had us all up and dancing and omg you have to try the passion fruit martinis. Thank you all for making us feel so welcome every time we come to the pub. It was a nice place for a drink, done a great job doing the place up. Cocktails turned up on a great serving platter thing. Looking forward to trying out the menu, friends ate before we got there and said it was good. We will be back!
We arrived a party of thirteen to have something to eat and drink following a wedding local to to the area. We were told food could not be ordered for another hour so we all sat outside and had cokes all round. A couple of people were so hungry they got a roll from elsewhere and rejoined us outside. The waiter came and said that normally they don’t allow people to eat food bought elsewhere, we understood and explained the circumstances. He said not to worry and that the two rolls could be finished as we were drinking and going to order food as soon as they started taking orders. Next arrived the bar manager who very unpleasantly told them to stop eating. We told her what had happened and she said he would not have said that. We said we don’t want him to get it into trouble but you should check rather than imply that your customers are lying. By then we had ordered food and others were eating their meals. Her treatment of us was appalling we finished our meals and she came over again and started the argument up again. We started to leave and we said we’re leaving now to which she replied good! She then arrived with another guy to watch us off the premises! The food was great, waiters great but the experience ruined by this person. Overall one star because of the experience had this not happened then four stars!
I stayed here for 4 nights with my girlfriend and had such an amazing time! The room was so comfortable and had everything we needed, staff were incredibly friendly and gave great service, the breakfasts we had at the hotel were all so tasty and the same goes for the drinks. It's a great location for enjoying Maldon and there's also a bus stop right outside to go elsewhere. Rooms: Our room was absolutely great, incredibly comfortable and cosy - we found it so relaxing and really enjoyed it. We had our own TV as well as a kettle and coffee machine which I made use of often and staff always kept the teabags, etc stocked up for us daily!. The bed was super soft and even though I usually struggle to sleep in unfamiliar environments, I found myself adjusting very quickly here and being able to sleep more than usual. They also provided us with robes, which we did not use personally, however on touching them they were made of a very soft material. Not a "typical" amazing view but it was really nice to look out the window and see the church across the road, for me that was quite picturesque. Nearby activities: Tons to do nearby, it's right on the high street and there's a bus stop directly outside the hotel which we used to get to Colchester too! There's a beautiful church and a very cute local book shop across the road, a Greggs right next door, and many shops and restaurants up and down the road. It's also quite close to the promenade park, which is so nice to walk around, offers a lot of activities especially for children, and has some great views. There's also an escape room extremely close by essentially next door, which I personally haven't tried yet but would absolutely love to. Food & drinks: Food was absolutely amazing!! Great portion sizes, not too big, not too small, and always brought out quite quickly. We only had breakfast at the hotel, so I can only speak on that, however I'm glad we chose to eat there rather than elsewhere, everything was perfect! Though neither of us have gluten intolerances or are vegan/vegetarian, me and my girlfriend noticed a lot of GF options on the breakfast menu and a fair amount of meat free ones too which we found really great! We were really happy with the amount of options we were given even just for breakfast, I had something entirely different every day.
We only ate there, the interior decor, the service and the food were all very good. The portions generous as well. I had the haggis and my wife the braised beef, both good; with colcannon, kale, carrots, parsnips and deep, rich gravy; yum.
Early December 22. We booked for a lunchtime dinner for three. No problem parking. We had a great meal and the staff were lovely and professional. The place soon became full for Christmas lunches and the service slowed a little. Overall it was OK. Definitely recommend.
Myself & my family stayed here for one night and were very impressed. The room was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was delicious as well. I would definitely recommend this lovely little hotel.
The 4/5 star rating is for one reason only = the management team was unable to provide me a correct invoice. Hard working staff, awesome food, great drinks... but an apparent inability to add my address to the invoice. Sad. But it's a critical shortcoming...Rooms: 5/5
We only ate there, so can't comment on the rooms. The restaurant servixe was good, attentive, but not overly so. On the high street, easy to get toRooms: 3/5
