Lovely little pub to stop at for lunch. Service was good, food was lovely and facilities clean. What more could you ask for? I had a lovely chargrilled rump steak & my husband had the chicken duo. Plus crispy squid for starter.
Had a brilliant experience. Staff were excellent. Food was just delicious and I liked the atmosphere. Not crammed in an not overly noisy. Chefs Helga and Brad turned out some great food and our waiter James made everything flow smoothly.
I didn’t have a booking at the Wheatstone Inn tonight and came with no real expectations, but Jess completely exceeded them. I think she’s new, yet so professional, friendly, and attentive, even while I was waiting alone, she made me feel welcome and looked after. The food was great, very homely and a thank you to Callum for kindly replacing my chips after I spilled salt on them. Fantastic service all round!
I hate doing this, but I have waited a few days and not heard anything.nnWe booked last minute for last Friday 3rd October at 6:30pm. We were seated pretty quick which was great and it was relatively quiet where we were in the back. After 10 minutes of being seated we hadn’t had any service for drinks, we then watched 2 tables seated after us take orders, so I had to go grab someone to take the order after they walked past and ignored me trying to talk to them. Food came out in 10 mins great, but no drinks 2 drinks, a coke and a cocktail we waited another 10 mins and asked the server where the drinks were and he said they were coming. We again then saw several people who arrived after us and had drinks orders after us get their drinks. I went up to the bar to ask again where the drinks were and was told the bar was slammed it was in all fairness I went back to the table and waited 10 more minutes; no drinks. We had already eaten starters by now and just wanted something to drink. I had to ask a 3rd time 30 mins in and 20 mins after starters for our drinks, my coke was on the bar with the ticket but no cocktail so I took my drink off the bar and we waited another 5 mins until the cocktail appeared. Baring in mind in said 25 minutes post starters and 20 mins post finishing the plates were never cleared.nWe asked for the bill and to leave the mains and we would go as we were surrounded by people with food and drinks whilst we got forgotten time and time again.nnThe owner? Manager? Both? was very nice and wiped our bill and said he would send us an email with some vouchers attached early this week but unfortunately we haven’t received anything.nnI have worked as a head chef in a restaurant and this is my honest unbiased take:nnOverall the food was good, if you go here on a Wednesday night expect a great meal and likely great servicennOwner nice guy - we didn’t get our vouchers but we didn’t really expect to in honesty, it was busy and likely forgotten. But you have some hard choices to make on the below - pubs and restaurants are built on the staff you hire, your chef is great and obviously with the menu has artistic liberties which is amazing; your waitstaff however are a different storynnBar staff - slammed, 1 person with a standing bar of what 15/20 customers and no one helping until the ship was sunk, it was quite apparent by the 30th minute that the cocktail was pushed to the back behind easy drinks like pints and glasses of winennServers - really inattentive on that night, ignored us several times, took the wrong order of people beside us, dordling around whilst the bar struggled and kept no order of who had been served.
Nice food, very good value. We had the steak and ale pie/chicken burger. Our waiter James was really helpful with recommendations and just all around great service.
