The cemetery is currently undergoing restoration, which did impact my time at the site. There were lots of areas blocked off by safety barriers; there were work vehicles continually driving around, and there was a lot of noise from the construction. The main entrance could not be fully appreciated as it was surrounded by work vans. This cemetery is more cultured, with only a few areas left to go truly wild. There was still a lot of wildlife. The main road is fully tarmaced. There are some hills, but it could be done by a wheelchair user. People with mobility issues may find it harder, but there were lots of benches. There are a number of grass tracks that threaded through the cemetery. These led to the more interesting graves. Care needs to be taken as many of the monuments and graves are collapsing.
One of the 'Magnificent Seven' Victorian cemeteries of London, and well worth a walk around. Entrance is at the junction of Norwood Road, Norwood High Street and Knights Hill. There is currently renovation work going on at the visitor centre at the entrance, and in the Greek enclosure at the back. Work will soon begin on the rose garden and to create two new entrances / exits in Robson Road and Hubbard Road. The pictures attached show these sites prior to these works starting.
Very beautiful cemetery. Lots of helpful signs for walkers and maps to indicate where you are in the premises. Beautiful Greek style graves and lovely history given behind the area. Highly recommend for a day walk to get some sun or on Halloween!
Well organized cemetery on a fairly big land. Many different types of graves including more than 100 y. old ones. It's particularly beautiful at spring time for the flourishing tree's. The part with the crypts inside the fences garden is one of my favourite parts. You can find it at the back of the cemetery. Also, the crematorium is an interesting part of it as well and recommended to see to have a complete idea about this place. It's a historical gem and well deserves to be preserved for the next generation.
Part of the 7 magnificent cemeteries of London. Pleasantly surprised by its surroundings.
Interesting place to visit , to see some amazing graves and monuments in memory of the dead.
Very nice place to walk around - very well kept and quite flat - well worth the visit!
Victorian cemetery with a controversial and chequered history. Eminently Gothic with a diaspora of mausolea, crypts, sarcophagi, catacombs and monuments scattered over the gentle slopes amidst ancient trees. The crumbling Greek Necropolis is especially, evocative and sepulchral. Redolent, poignant and worthwhile.
A nice stroll for those who like peace and nature. It's a big cemetery that goes uphill where you can sit on a bench and be with your thoughts.
Absolutely disgraceful upkeep of this cemetery. The entrance & front of cemetery may be well kept but move to the back & it's just over run, no cutting back the grass & weeds, for the third time this year we couldn't get close to the grave of our dearly loved mum & grandparents. The upset this causes us is beyond words. This has been an ongoing problem over the years but in recent times has become a nightmare. Please lambeth council get this sorted
