What a beautiful and peaceful place for a stroll or a morning coffee. There is a cafe and visitor centre. The park is long and narrow ending with the chapel. Unfortunately it is not opened for general viewing but it has a lovely exterior. There is a visitors centre and signage throughout the park giving some history. A beautiful place for a wander or a sit.
Absolutely gorgeous place. Amazing architecture and TONS of history. I'm also adding that it is considered a park so it was very strange as I've seen people walk over graves, Rollerblade, bike, and kids use the building as a playground. Was not used to that
I love this place ! There is something calming about this cemetery. Oddly not morbid. I come here almost daily even if it's just for a quick walk . Families come here , people cycle and roller blade and lots of runners. Something for everyone. Lots of famous people buried here too . There are tours you can take .
Situated a short walk from West Brompton station sits another of London's historic cemeteries. As you enter through the North Lodge, the large expansive grounds offer an oasis of tranquillity filled with over two hundred thousand lost souls. Slowly strolling down the many walkways, you be taken in by the many styles of headstones and imposing mausoleum. Amongst the notable names are Emiline Pankhurst and popular actor Brian Glover. At the far end is the chapel, which is surrounded by the catacombs. Fortunately, when I visited, the chapel was open, and I was able to take in its splendour. I would strongly advise a visit and take a walk back into history.
One of London’s ‘Magnificent Seven’ Victorian Cemeteries, Brompton is architecturally beautiful, described as an ‘open-air cathedral’. A lovely green space to wander around while looking out for famous names. Suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst’s grave still attracts visitors leaving small tributes. Located inside the grounds, Café North Lodge is Grade II listed itself, serving breakfast and lunch. Unfortunately the weather was too cold and damp at the time of our visit to enjoy the open air terrace. Getting here is really easy via West Brompton Overground Station and, as it’s a Royal Park, admission is free. A lovely place to spend a few hours.
Fascinating 180 year old cemetery with catacombs and a chapel. Quite a few famous graves to explore.
Absolutely love coming through here during each different season it's so gorgeous! Lovely for a jog or to come and get some photos
Filed under taphophile: I always enjoy visiting cemeteries when i am in a new area; as you can learn a lot about the local history and culture just by quietly walking through one. Brompton Cemetery one of London's Magnificent Seven; a ring of seven cemeteries built around the London in response to the booming population is a peaceful refuge in the middle of London. There are a few minor historical figures buried here but not many. There is great architecture though.
Curious, we passed through this vast cemetery 0.7mil x 0.2mil. Proper wide spine road who seems to be frequented by joggers or bikers. A cafe at the northern end with a view of gravestones adds uniqueness of the site
Beautiful cemetery to walk around. It has a very peaceful atmosphere - a great place to walk and reflect on things… Sad to see so many headstones in disrepair but most of the reason is the age of them! Nice to see people walking and reflecting!
