We had an amazing time on the three isles tour. Starting with the bus journey through mull, the bus driver and tour provided interesting facts about the island as we made our way to the ferry to Iona. Iona was absolutely beautiful, we were incredibly lucky with the weather and made our way to the other side of the island where we saw eider ducks and sandpipers. The island had lots of amenities. We then had the tour to Staffa island which again was beautiful. The cave was amazing and we saw some puffins. Only small criticism hence four stars is that there was a change in itinerary which could have been communicated better, such as via email. Such as specific timings and collection points. Luckily the island is small enough that you can’t really get lost but the miscommunication did lead to a moment of stress which should usually be avoided through paid excursions. But overall had a great time!
An excellent trip, really well organised and good value for money. We visited the Isles of Mull, Staffa and Iona. The ferry trip across from Oban was excellent with stunning views and the bus trip across Mull was very informative. We then got a small boat to the Isle of Staffa and Fingals Cave. Before returning to the beautiful island of Iona. Highly recommended trip and would definitely use again.
The wildlife tour Mull, Staffa, Lunga, Iona was the highlight of our two week Scottish trip! We booked over a month in advance and our hearts sunk as we received an email a couple of days before the planned trip date that the tour is canceled due to ferry issues. We tried to rebook but finally got a confirmation that the tour will proceed as planned. We have received the ferry ticket via email 1 QR code for all ferry rides for both passengers and set on our adventure early in the morning. The tour is perfectly organized, however do not expect any hand holding - there will not be a tour guide with you from start to finnish. You will need to be a bit proactive and get yourself from one stage of the trip to the next where each stage will be taken care of by a different guide, group, driver or transport means. First, we made sure to be at the Oban ferry terminal bright nad early in the line for the Mull ferry. We quickly spotted some other tourists and bonded over our plans as we were headed for the same tour. After enjoying the scenic ferry ride we disembarked at Mull and already spotted the unmistakable red West Coast Motors double deckers. The bus drivers had a list of names and quickly and expertly sorted out who should be in which bus. During the ride we enjoyed the views and listened to interesting stories on the recorded audio guide. In Fionnphort, we embarked on small Staffa boat tours. The Staffa guys took us to see the impressive Fingal's cave, and the most amazing thing of all: the puffin colony on the isle of Lunga. This was absolutley the best. The adorable brave little birds are not too shy and one can see them from close range. Still, be respectful and make sure not to cause them stress. Let's not forget the little guys spend the whole tough winter out in the Atlantic and come ashore to build a family - not to make a show for us : We appreciated the fact that wildlife Rangers accompanied us on the tour to gently remind us of that fact and to share other valuable information, stories, and experience with us. After precious two hours with puffins and other seabirds, such as seagulls, razorbills, european shags, and others on Lunga, our Staffa tours boat took us to Iona. The beautiful little island has a couple of nice restaurants and cafes, tons of lovely craft shops, an impressive old monastery, and it's own whiskey and gin distillery. We had to be careful to catch the ferry from Iona back to Fionphort again, be proactive and responsible, no guide is going to hunt you around the island; where our West coast motors bus drivers greeted us warmly, checked the names on the list and took the happy and tired passanegrs back to Craignure from where we took the ferry back to Oban. An amazing, adventure packed dynamic day that we were lucky not to miss out on! Thank you West Coast Tours for cooking up this wonderful itinerary!
The destinations on the three isle tour were all excellent. The actual organisation was extremely poor. The email sent to explain the day is misleading. Ferry to mull Calmac was easy, approached WCT bus area to find a very grumpy and unhelpful guide. We finally sorted out which bus we were meant to be on. The bus had mechanical issues, driver had to restart engine 5 times on our journey. Bus Pa was also broken with only upstairs able to hear the spoken guide. Driver was appalling and drove very dangerously. Next stop onto the small boat was a bit better organised but too many people on it, squashed together. First stop to Staffa was great but time very limited. Next stop to Iona gave a much better amount of time on the island. Bus journey back was much better with a very good driver. One thing, no time at all to spend on mull.
Three Islands Tour was amazing. A full day trip enabling to make the most of the two nights I had in Oban. Really well organised series of connecting boat and coach trips. Saw stags, buzzards, seals, cormorants, sandpipers. Too early in the year for puffins sadly. Staffa is wonderful and an hour is plenty of time to explore across the top of the island as well as the cave. The weather was exceptional by the time we got to Iona. This is a heavenly place. The bright blue crystal clear waters and boats bobbing near the shore made me feel I could have been in the Mediterranean or Caribbean. Well worth paying the extra to go around the abbey and learn about the history. Some nice woollen shops too. Back to Oban in time for fish and chips at Nories.
The three island tour is fantastic. We take family and friends on the tour every time we come to Scotland. Short ferry from Oban to Mull. Across Mull on a tour bus with incredibly friendly and knowledgeable drivers/tour guides. A short boat ride to Staffa to see Fingal's Cave and Puffins go before mid July and incredible views. A short boat ride to Iona to step back in religious history and time. Enjoy two hours on the island to see the nunnery, Abby, crosses, and white sand beaches. Go on this tour!
This was a highlight of our trip. Safe and knowledgeable tour operators. We loved the three island tour. We had great weather too. Staffa was a highlight. It is not for people with mobility issues. Take care to hold the rope. Sometimes there were lots of people. Make sure to stop in the shop to get your tickets even if you print off the email QR codes. The only downside was a Big Bus Tour that pushed its way in front of queue once we were already in the terminal waiting. Not the problem of West Coast Tours or Ferry. Eat on Iona.
Very disappointed. Was phoned at 3pm the day before to say our tour was cancelled due to some issue with the CalMac ferry. You had already taken over £100 and in hindsight I would have just booked myself independently to avoid disappointment. It seemed you were happy to take my money but not provide a service. I was coming especially to Oban with my Mum to visit Mull and Iona as she last came with my Dad over 30 years ago. I was pretty heartbroken for my Mum as she will unlikely see Iona again as we could only visit for 2 days and she is elderly. The lady on the phone was shockingly rude and unapologetic and gave no alternative trip. What I didn't understand was there was indeed a tour from your company that went to Mull we made it over and back albeit without seeing what we had made the trip for so it was quite sickening to see on the day we were meant to go. Not even worthy of 1 star.
Three Island Tour 4.5 really and it came down to lack of communication maybe. When we picked up our Ferry tickets we were given no info on where to go at the terminal. There was more than one ferry at the time and no signage as to where to go for our specific ferry. Felt sad for the travellers who had English as a second language trying to figure out where to go to. West Coast bus driver from Craigmure to Fionnphort, forgot his name but he came from the Midlands? Give the guy a raise or do everything you can to keep him. Was an absolute blast and is a great ambassador for Mull. So much more fun and enjoyment than the boring voice recorded guide on way back. Also loved the captain of the boat to Staffa. Full of knowledge and loves his job. Lucky to catch some Puffins which was a highlight. Would recommend the tour by these guys for sure.
Went on the three isle's tour, very well planned out, all the tour guides were friendly and very informative. Amazing scenery across all the islands. Saw some dolphins on the way to Staffa and on the way back, sadly wasn't quick enough with the camera!
