Its a National Trust property which means it not the cheapest place to visit unless you join their year membership, which then give free access to all their properties. Original old Mill that explains how flax was processed then at the end they run the actual water wheel that powers the Beetling Machine. It only half a mile from the main Omagh to Cooktown Main Road but the road is a bit narrow leading to it but is quite and could still be done in a motor home but the carpark has a gate and if the place is closed then there's no way of turning to get back to the main road and the narrow road after it passes the Mill gets worse. There's a nice wooded walk behind the Mill that follows the river about half a mile upstream to the Weir. They also have a grass area next to the carpark which has a boarded walk and picnic tables. If your visiting Drummonor Forest Park then this place is only a mile or 2 away from it
This was an excellent experience, with both guides sharing excellent information with enthusiasm and friendliness. We were two groups and both sets were delighted with the reception and explanation they received. We had overseas visitors who loved seeing the working waterwheel and how linen was made. Superb work, and thank-you guides.
Lovely place for a dander up along the river when the leaves are falling
Excellent Location Year round. Amazing walking trail & mill
I used to have summer holidays in the little cottage in the 70's - apart from that now being the visitor centre not much has changed. A time warp visit.
Closed when we called but absolutely beautiful mill and mill race. Why this isn't one of the most visited tourist attractions in Northern Ireland I don't know. Stunning.
Beautiful grounds. Small and charming
Not a spectacular setting, but intriguing. If you are after a large country-house type National Trust experience, this might not be the place for you. However, if you want a genuine experience learning about an important part of the heritage of the area, it is well worth stopping for. We travelled here as part of our mini National Trust tour of mid-Ulster. Although it was a wet day when were were on site, it was exceptionally enjoyable. Initially, we strolled around the glen that sits behind the mill buildings - exceptionally picturesque. The property I think isn't as well publicisied as the likes of the Argory or even Ardress House, so the visitor numbers are lower. On this occasion it meant we had the tour to ourselves. However, it is easily accessible and sign posted on the main road from Cookstown to Omagh and there is ample parking directly across from the main mill buildings. The tour was led by a National Trust volunteer Zach who was exceptionally informative - the tour included a complete hands on instruction from freshly harvested flax to linen. Every stage was interesting and Zach able to answer any questions we had. The mill is still in fine working order demonstrated when the climax of the tour are three of the beetling machines let loose! and for that reason is something special.
Beautiful place for a walk and a great experience when the mill is open and running.
No one to bother you in the morning had a lovely time just sitting by the water!
