Located just a short journey from the A38, with ample amount of on site car parking.Our menu is made up of all home-cooked dishes, which our chefs enjoy packing with tons of flavor. This one is a hard one to review... I feel harsh giving it three stars as it is a nice restaurant and it's got stunning decor as well as a log burner which is plenty to keep the place warm and is an attractive feature. Unfortunately on the night we went it was with a big party now as such we did have to preorder but unfortunately the staff seemed Ill prepared... And as such we were asked several times what meals we wanted. The food came out quite staggered to the point some were finished when some started. I had the nut roast with all the trimmings which sounded really good... Unfortunately it came out rather 'charred' on top and quite mushy in the middle... For pudding I had the spiced apple crumble. The flavours were good but unfortunately it had spent a little too long in the microwave and had stuck to the bowl... I did look at other peoples meals and some, I personally, wouldn't have liked to eat... Now on the flip side. We were a big party, there seemed to be a skeleton staff and the staff themselves were extremely friendly and attentive if not a little forgetful, the place like I said was really nice and maybe if we went another evening where it would have been 'service as normal' things may have been completely different this is why I feel conflicted. But I have to say unfortunately on the night we did go, this was the service we received.
Absolutely superb. We booked a table whilst in the car in the way to Devon having had our previous reservation cancelled at a different pub. From the moment we arrived the hospitality was fantastic. From the lady who greeted us at the bar and took our orders, to staff who brought the food out. The food was lovely home cooked style food and we had 4 tasty meals and deserts. It's a shame we live too far away to make it a regular but will certainly go back again if we're in the area. Thanks for the great service and food
We popped in today 23/11/2022 for a spur of the moment meal with our Son . The staff were fabulous, the meals were excellent and the menu choice was superb. If you want a well portioned meal in very comfortable surroundings and for a very reasonable price then this is a great choice. The welcome stranger certainly welcomed us and we won't be strangers in future. Many thanks to all the staff for making us feel so comfortable.
Visited this evening with a friend for the first time and it was wonderful! Highly recommend! A warm welcome from the staff inside and quick, friendly service. Very good value for the large portions served, and the food was all homemade and delicious. Would definitely return.
Friendly staff. Been busy every time we've visited which might account for the slightly slow service. Large portions of tasty food so ideal for those who have large appetites and capacity. A starter and dessert might be sufficient for some people. Car park and overspill car park just above it.
Excellent quality food, decent decor and ample parking. They should stop using frozen chips and start making homemade style chips because it doesn't make sense having such high quality food to then finish off with frozen chips. The service was good overall but one of the older female waitresses with dark hair no idea what her name was as there was no introduction or name tags from anyone who didn't have a very good attitude, she was a bit abrupt with my auntie who asked her about the new change of ownership but aside from her the other staff members were friendly and took good care of us during our meal. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a nice, cosy meal in on their travels.
We found this pub last year while desperately hunting around for somewhere that served food after a late finish walk on Dartmoor. It turned out to be a good shout. This year we went back deliberately for the food/drink. Decent portions and tasty pub food. Highly recommended.
6 family members had our Christmas "get together" here today. Amazing meals and good size portions. Very reasonable prices. Excellent service and lovely staff. See you again soon. Thank you.
Sunday dinner is wonderful. Great selection of ales, although they could do with more local ciders on tap. Play area at the top for slightly older children and space to run around. Plenty of parking.
There isn't a single thing about this place that isn't absolutely top notch. Really nice decor and feel, great service from attentive, friendly, knowledgeable staff, really reasonable prices, and the food...... Well the food is out of this world. We're going back for definite.
