The worst shopping experience I have ever had. I went shopping with my family today 26th April 2024 around 6.45 - 7.20 PM. As parents with young children would know, babies around walking age like to walk around the store and touching thing here and there. This is the same with my daughter who is one year old. Today she walked around the store, completely supervised and closely followed by me. She accidentally pulled out two battery packages from the display hook. I immediately told her not to that and tried put the batteries back on the hook. The security guard quickly came to tell me off all of a sudden. He said your child has damaged the packaging of these batteries AA, we cannot sell these anymore. He told me "don't do this again" and abruptly walked away without giving me chance to speak. I have never experienced this level of rudeness by a supermarket staff before! It was a completely one way communication. It also made me feel extremely unwelcome in the store. Being an adult myself I'm in my late 30's, I wasn't expected to be scolded and treated like a 3 year old by a supermarket staff, especially when I was only trying to do my weekly grocery shopping. Even though I would not like to get anyone from the store in trouble, I would still like to give my feedback on how to improve the store as below. 1. The height of this battery display is as low as babies/toddlers' height, it is really easy for young children to grab. If the store feels that the packaging of these batteries are very important to them as according to the security guard's exact words - "This is a high class store. Damaged packages cannot be sold", I would recommend to move these batteries to be out of reach from children or to clearly put a sign such as 'Children Do not touch'. 2. If the batteries are such high value items, they should be put in protective clear boxes. Many supermarkets are doing this already with steaks or liquors even with batteries!. The boxes will also protect the fragile paper packaging from tearing so easily. 3. Customer service training is needed for the staff here. Normally security guards from other supermarkets don't really bother customers when they do their shopping. However, if the security guard from this Waitrose plans to speak to customers on a regular basis, I would suggest that he especially need some training on how speak to customers in a friendly and professional way. I also saw many other reviews on Google here that other customers had also encountered rude behaviour from the staff at Waitrose Altrinham as well. Therefore I believe customer service training is very much needed here. 4. Waitrose should review their refund policy and how they classify goods as damaged. I ended up paying for the items which were claimed as damaged by the guard. However, I have to point out that they didn't ask me to pay for the batteries but I felt that I needed to do so with all the accusation going on. Out of curiosity, I asked another staff in the store that when the packaging was damaged like this paper slightly teared around the top part - if they would still take it back if a customer were to return it for a refund. Funny enough, the staff said 'yes'. As the seal is not broken, it is still refundable. This sounded contradicting in itself. On one hand, my daughter was said to have damaged the item. On the other hand if a customer bought the same item and returned it in the exact same condition with a tear, it would be returnable. This encounter with the security guard here has really upset me that I have given my feedback to the other staff and also to the security guard himself afterwards. They apologised to me right away which I appreciate. However, I still feel the feedback should still be given here and that it would benefit the store in the long run. Hopefully, other customers will not be treated like how I was treat here today again. Needless to say I will now be doing my grocery shopping somewhere else where the children and I can feel more welcome.
Nice enough store but clearly struggling for sales, the prices of everyday basics are shocking, considerably more expensive than Sainsburys, Coop etc…many products off sales, yellow sticker clearance all over fresh, counters closed. Feel bad saying it but I wonder how long the shop will stay open.
Pleasant experience, goods nicely presented. Not a huge outlet but has everything for a medium size shop. Car park is good.
Bought Greek fat free yoghurt yesterday and when I came to use it today it is dated 19th June. That's a week out of date where is your stock rotation? Update Manager can't be bothered to speak to me and Head Office offered £2.35 refund for a yoghurt 6 days out of date that I used in a curry I was making and had to throw it all away. Oh and I deleted the voucher DO NOT USE THIS STORE
Lovely Waitrose shop with cafe and toilet. Disabled parking spaces. Royal Mail letter box. Other businesses on site. 2023
What a poor example of a Waitrose store, fresh fruit already rotting with only a day or so left before best before date and still on the shelves. Checkout staff seem completely uninterested in any small talk or just general politeness. I travel up and down the country on a regular basis and this is the worst branch I’ve used. Note to Management, get your team engaged and drive home the importance of customer service, a premium brand should not be giving second class service.
Alison at the front could do with a bit of customer service training.... Brought in a John Lewis defective item return and she looked at me/spoke to me like I was a massive issue for her. "I don't know why they do this" "you won't get any updates" "it won't go anywhere without this old fashioned label" "ok I've added a label all done". Huh??
I’ve been shopping at Altrincham Waitrose since it opened some years ago, until recently I have found my items very easily but over the last few months the excellent Vegan food options have reduced significantly, they have moved vegan foods to a tiny spot which is next to “red raw meat”- this seems to be a permanent change now and does absolutely nothing to encourage me to buy my vegan food in Waitrose- has there been a change in the management team? If so do they have any experience in retail? It would appear not!!! Meanwhile the longstanding team of staff remain lovely and approachable. Three stars because of the store team.
Great selection of lovely food. Not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. This isn't a large place and that makes it a nice place to shop. Wine selection is good. Staff are helpful and accommodating. The car park isn't that big but even at busy times, like just before Christmas I've always been able to park. There are a couple of other small shops on site like a dry cleaners and menders which makes the whole experience complete.
Completely ruined shopping experience after being followed by security on every corner. Me and my pregnant wife were completely alone on the corridors and the same security person was on every corner checking on us. I had to ask the security gentleman if he was following us and obviously he just could say no. Honestly, just take your money elsewhere and enjoy your Christmas shopping without feeling that someone thinks that you are going to steal the whole store.
