As Vx is pretty close to Kings Cross, I decided to drop by to takeaway some vegan fast/junk food for my train ride. I had the weekend special: Blue Cheese Taco Bowl with Curly Fries & Popcorn Seitan [£6.00] – Tortilla Shell Howl filled with curly fries, popcorn seitan, tomato/cucumber chunks and vegan blue cheese dressing; Weekend Special: Curry Wurst [£5.50]; Mac n Cheese [£3.50]; Salted Caramel Brownie [£2.80]. The blue cheese taco bowl was disappointing. The ratio of tortilla to toppings was not good. There was very little popcorn seitan, tomato and cucumbers in the tortilla with a generous topping of curly fries. There was barely any taste from the blue cheese dressing. There was a pretty good portion of the currywurst that was doused with sauce. – Nothing spectacular about it, just average vegan sausages that had a mushy texture with a tomato-BBQ-esque sauce and curry powder. The Mac n Cheese was disappointing as well, bland in taste, had a slight cheesy texture to it tho. The hefty slice of salted caramel brownie was actually pretty good – sweet and salty, also a nice fudgy texture to it and not too sweet as I expected it to be. The place is small, so seating is very limited. Staff is nice, friendly and flexible to what you like. In my opinion, Vx is perfectly fine for a quick bite of cheap vegan junk food. The vegan cakes and sweets I tried were pretty good though. It’s also a plus that Vx sells some vegan grocery products as well vegan sausages, mock meats, drinks, ice creams, cheese etc. However, I wouldn’t purposefully make my way to this area just to eat at Vx with it's uninspired food because as much as I hate to give a low rating for a vegan place - I think I could whip up better Vegan junkfood just from pre-made vegan groceries. Didn't live up to my expectations especially after the good reviews I read.
Love this place. It has tradition, and deserves it. Great staff, great food and clothing, perfect. Perfect location just around the corner from King's Cross Station make it the perfect first stop on a trip for us. The rainbow cake is mostly only available on Saturdays but a real treat. The burgers and quesadillas are awesome lunch munch too. Make it a must stop!
Adorable little place. Had an amazing milkshake, Mac and cheese wrap and ribs. Just what I needed before a train back to leeds wanted to buy some merch too but was a bit too broke. Maybe next time Oh and they use bio degradable straws and they tell you, which is also adorable
TL;DR Poor food and service So many better vegan options now available everywhere they really need to up their game. Staff were unfriendly and unwilling to accommodate a simple request for a salad because it was half an hour before closing so we ended up only ordering the fish wrap. The food was dissapointing with very little love put into it. Pictures on their website are misleading... appears to show seaweed in the fish wrap but I must have missed it. Me and my boyfriend rushed in at ten to seven on Thursday night after having been on the train for 4 hours hankering for some of the delicious vegan food we’d seen on their website just an hour before and we’d noticed they stop serving hot food at 7 but close at 7:30. Perfect...or not. I was keen on the steak frites and my boyfriend is far more concerned with his health than I and was after the nachos but with no cheese maybe salad instead. We were immediately told that most options weren’t available and it was burgers or wraps only! Minor setback really...used to being marginalised as a vegan, but not in a vegan shop! I went for the fish wrap, I’m easy. My boyfriend was told he could have nachos but he HAD to have cheese. Not possible to remove apparently. He’s a bit pigheaded and really tried to work a solution but the attitude he had to endure was ridiculous. So used to friendly vegans being flexible and trying to please people but these guys clearly didn’t want us there. Easier to just shut at half 6 surely? The reaction to not wanting cheese was a joke though, and given the other reviews on the service, blandness and unimaginary food I read £6 too late I wouldn’t have been surprised now. Got on the next train home 7mins away and the fish wrap didn’t even have the seaweed that was clearly in the picture on the web, it was mushy apart from the lettuce I guess it had a fishy taste? DEFINITELY never visiting again, sad really as it was one of the first places of its kind according to my boyfriend.
Always have decent vegan food here, I opted for the all day breakfast brunch on my visit. Very tasty!
Smaller than I expected but cool place to pick up some vegan apparel and groceries as well as a bite to eat. The seitan ribs are good but really saucy. If you miss meat, pick up some Primal Strips seitan jerky!
Amazing vegan food. So many options. Really friendly staff. The burgers are sooooo good. And the chocolate eclair is delicious.
It's small, but the food was really nice. We both enjoyed our food which arrived promptly.
Had some fantastic vegan BBQ takeaway ribs. Made me revaluate what vegan food could be like. Superb!
The food and drinks were absolutely delicious! I found this cage recommended as one of the top ten vegan places in London and it was the closest to the area we were in. We were not disappointed. The eclair as the article suggested was so tasty. I haven't had anything like it for a long time since giving up milk and eggs. The man serving was very quick to set us up a table outside too as they cafe was full. Wonderful!
