A great place to spend a couple of hours. Well signed off the High Street. Walk into the reused old church and open a Pandora's box of historical artifacts covering hundreds of years. For the price of a beer£3 you can compare all the tools of workmen past. Military memorabilia some local and some from as far away as the Crimean war. Household paraphernalia, local photographs . Medical instruments, children's toys the list is endless. A friendly welcome from knowledgeable volunteers. Well done. Its a treasure.
We considered the £3 entry fee well worth it, for access to one of the best but weirdest little town museum that we have ever visited. Based around donations from local people, it has an eclectic mix of exhibits, ranging from stone age hand axes through to late 20th century memorabilia. There is so much here that it is difficult to see it all, even though it is arranged into vaguely organised categories. Highlights were the agricultural and blacksmithing implements, the toys and the truly creepy funeral and mourning clothes.
Such a fabulous museum jam packed with interesting things to see. It's run by volunteers and the entry fee is extremely reasonable. I would recommend a visit here.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
We visited the museum from Yorkshire and was met by 2 of the most lovely ladies I’ve ever met. They made our visit to Scotland most memorable with their witty humour and knowledge. And even kept my teenager children happy and interested. When my children talk about Scotland now, they talk about the museum and the lovely ladies that were volunteering. Thank you for such a lovely welcome.
This is a fantastic, locally run centre of history and discovery. It is jam packed with items and history and so worth taking a look around. Dog friendly, kid friendly there was a quiz with prizes that kept them engaged, local and tourist friendly too. The staff were wonderful and so welcoming, toilets available in the building, you could spend a good hour or so looking at stuff on here and still discover something new next time. Very reasonable price adults £3, dogs free, and a lovely addition to our road trip.
A really interesting museum. A massively varied content but all relating to Newton Stewart and the surrounding area. The varied exhibits vary from military uniforms to fashion and kitchenwares. The staff, all volunteers are knowledgable friendly and helpful. The museum is a charity and needs all the support it can find so please visit if you are in the area, it will be worth it and very enjoyable.
Found this place by chance on Google Maps. A truly intriguing museum jam packed with everything from dolls to a shotgun and aircraft wreckage to an old milking machine. We were greeted with a warm welcome and our teenage kids were even kept entertained with the free quiz. Thanks.
Lovely place we loved it!! Loved the treasure hunt, gentlemen very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back

Visited two days ago on a trip up to Scotland from Yorkshire. Really interesting museum and the volunteers that run it were superb. Never met such a nice bunch of ladies that were very helpful and keen to tell you about the local history. Superb, thank you.
