Having lived in Buckingham for almost a decade, Villiers is my go-to hotel for special occasions and having nearby accommodation for visiting family. I dine here with my family on a semi-regular basis. I really like the bar area, particularly at this time of year when the fire in the inglenook fireplace is lit. I sit there sometimes imagining how that fire would have been used hundreds of years ago, cooking meals for people. The original bread oven is still there! The hotel has an interesting history dating back 4 or 5 hundred years, so although the public areas look nice and modern, there are some older quirks to the hotel. I really love the old historical pictures of Buckingham dotted around the hotel. My parents have stayed in a number of the rooms and really like the hotel, especially the nod it gives to the local history. I've always enjoyed the food here, particularly the Sunday lunches, it's why we always go back, it's consistently good and none of us have ever had a negative experience when dining here. My children enjoy the food here too, and the staff are very keen to ensure everyone has a good dining experience, especially for one of my 'picky eater' children. The staff are great, always helpful and keen to please. If you're looking for a hotel who care about their guests, this is the place to go, and it's why it continues to be our go-to local hotel, it even had the women's Finnish football team stay there during the summer for the Euros! That was a novelty for Buckingham this summer.
Wonderful hotel. Easy to find. Good parking. Rooms were superb and the meals in the restaurant just delicious. The room had everything, including the best shower pressure so far. A very comfortable place to stay.Rooms: 5/5
My Fiancé booked me a Virgin Experience Day for my birthday and this was the hotel with it. It was perfect, the staff were so friendly and helpful, rooms were perfect for what we needed and very clean. The food was really nice, the portions don’t look big but they pack a real flavour and beautiful taste. Breakfast was fantastic , plenty of drinks, cereal and hot food available. I had no complaints across our stay. We will certainly come back!
Stayed at Villiers hotel last night 11/03/2023 gave five stars as staff were excellent so friendly and helpful especially the barman who later served us our dinner. some areas of the rooms do need a bit of refurbishment but that work is in hand and the beams and history of the hotel more than make up for it. It was a shame we missed out on the new improved dinner menu starting the Monday after we left as the old one was not good value for the price charged frozen french fries not good. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel and Buckingham is a lovely town if you stay here make sure to visit the new inn pub awesome landlady
Well maintained hotel, very friendly staff. The bar / restaurant area is great. Had a fantastic burger and fries. I've lived in the US so my burger standards are high... definitely going backRooms: 5/5
A beautiful hotel in the centre of Buckingham. Large lovely room, recently updated by looks of it. Unfortunately it was a twin rather than a double room, so two single beds. No sockets next to the beds for phone charging, nor sockets by the desk, so couldn't use a laptop. The bar prices were extortionate - £25 for two double vodka and cokes, £2.50 of that being for a bowl of stale peanuts. We were expecting great things from dinner, with a rib-eye steak at £35 and beef bourguignon at £20 - however, my barely touched the bourguignon as it was way too salty. My rib-eye steak was very disappointing - I asked for garlic butter instead of the pepper sauce, but apparently that wasn't possible... Really...?? Charging premium prices for mediocre at best food is not good, and I certainly do not recommend eating here. I asked another couple staying at the hotel what they thought of the food - "it was OK" was the best they could describe it. Breakfast was pretty good, but definitely not worth the £16.50 per head... The hotel is lovely, but I recommend eating and drinking elsewhere...
I went for lunch with a friend. Had visited in the Summer and had had a delicious salad. So we were happy to have another lunch here. This time we opted for the soup of the day and were disappointed. It was very watery and not very flavoursome. We also had a bowl of loaded fries to share, which were tasty, but were brought out to us while we still eating soup, so got cold before we got to eat them. Not sure if we will give them another try. Food & drinks: See above...
We stayed at this hotel for my sister in laws wedding. we booked a premium room for two night, when we first arrived to the hotel and got to our room the first thing that hit us was the smell of the room, overall not pleasant, as we further inspected the room we found food crumbs in the bedding, the carpet in the room was terribly stained and honestly looked like a murder scene and the two lounge chairs that where in the room where incredibly worn, faded, and stained. Honestly didn't feel comfortable removing my shoes to walk in the room. On a good note we were given a cleaner room after talking to reception about the room. And the breakfast was great. In conclusion for 400 GBP for two nights, the room was sub par but the food and service was decent. Wouldn't recommend.
This review is regarding the afternoon tea located in the Laura Ashley tea room inside the hotel. The customer service was fantastic, I had specific dietary requirements for my party which were met, hotel reception and waitresses were absolutely lovely and accommodating! Thank you!
This review if for Duke's bar and restaurant rather than the hotel. Had an absolutely lovely meal, with polite attentive service throughout. Food was amazing and we'll definitely be back.Service: 5/5
