Absolutely LOVE staying at this hotel. Have visited other Bradford hotels and the difference here is significant in terms of the things that matter most to me, the levels of comfort, but particularly the friendliness of staff and their willingness to go out of their way to make guests feel welcome and comfortable is really appreciated. Each of the rooms I've stayed in have been different which I've appreciated. Breakfast is good value and plenty available. Evening meals in the restaurant are terrific value, particularly 3 course option - but would recommend reserving in advance as they can occasionally be very busy. I've been recommending the hotel to other visitors to Bradford. It's a stunning building with lots of history and convenient for rail, bus and parking on site.
My first visit to the hotel, an 1860s hotel, still remarkably well kept up. The whole plane was clean, the rooms well appointed and fresh. The staff very friendly and helpful. We only had experience of the bed and breakfast, but breakfast was buffet style and plentiful, with a good variety of hot and cold food. Will definitely go againRooms: 4/5
Booked the 5 course Christmas meal. We were seated in one of the large function rooms with grand Victorian features which was a nice setting. It was quiet at our allocated time so courses came out promptly; and staff were polite and attentive for the most part. The dishes were all really well presented and tasted really good. As the room filled up they did crank the music volume up perhaps too much. And the tables were perhaps crammed in little too tightly. Towards the end of our meal we were left with empty dessert plates for about 20 minutes and we had to flag a waiter down to ask for them to be cleared away but it is understandable as larger parties had arrived and the staff did seem a bit overrun. But they were apologetic and as it was at the end of the meal it didn't detract away from the experience too much; and the subsequent coffee course arrived promptly. Overall a really good experience and worth the cost.
Attended Christmas Day for lunch, along with my daughter and son in law who had travelled up from the South West of England to stay for a few days. Absolutely superb, couldn't fault any part of the lunch. Lovely hotel, excellent staff who worked their socks off. A thoroughly delightful experience. Just may have to do it again next year!!!
Our first room felt stone cold as soon as we entered and incredibly colder than the hallways we considered sleeping in the halls later on. Due to the coldness we asked for a fan heater or something and one arrived quickly but unfortunately it was a noisy electric fan and took a long time to heat the room. This had to be turned off due to the noise and the room cooled down really quickly when it was. The bathroom was absolutely stone cold throughout our stay with freezing tiled floor and druaghty wooden framed windows. During the second day we experienced rain and within 20 minutes the water was literally running through the wall under the window to create a large puddle. Following the cold and now the water we exited our room and sought a room change at reception, being reallocated to a "suite" on the fourth floor. This was better, in that it was warmer and watertight, but overall the room standard was not high and both we experienced felt very tired. As way of an apology we were granted a complimentary breakfast and assured a "note" would be added to our room bill for checkout to have the breakfast cost removed. Upon checkout we were asked to settle the £20 breakfast bill but explained we had been granted these as complimentary. The very rude young lady snapped back "why!?". It was here that we explained the room issues and who had issued the breakfasts male member of staff with glasses and black stud earring whom we believe was a manager and actually the most professional member of staff we dealt with. On our first night stay we experienced a brief fire alarm 10 seconds around 05:50 followed by the same around 1 minute later. Our room phone was flashing "Reception" so we phoned down to ask if everything was okay and asked should we leave the room? We were firstly assured everything was okay but then asked "is everything okay?" Which made us feel as though staff didn't know if everything actually was okay. About 05:55 the fire alarm sounded and kept going so we got up and went downstairs along with most other guests to find that the fire brigade had arrived. We saw a member of staff act out to other guests that someone had poured something over themselves then set it on fire, which was confirmed when a guest was brought down covered in alcohol, soot and coughing. The safety issue is we were told the the following day that the first two alarms were silenced by staff, hence the two 10 second bursts, before they investigated the cause. Why a fire alarm is silenced immediately in a hotel is beyond me and a safety concern. Overall, our stay was very sub-standard and we simply won't stay here again when we inevitably return to Bradford. Food was good, it is always a challenge for hospitality to get hot food out to large groups. They did really well apart from the clearing up this could have been a bit quicker. The entertainment was good too. Definitely a good Xmas party venue.Service: 4/5
Terrible. Bathroom curtain is a see through piece of fabric. They had a disco blaring so loud we could here it in our room the other side of the hotel until 12.30 so no sleep for us! The windows and so thin they don’t block out any traffic noise so worst night sleep I’ve ever had. Shame as the room was nice and bed was comfy . The disco should have been mentioned when we checked in we had 7 hours or travelling and were very tired . Never again!!
This is a beautiful building. The rooms are basic but have the essentials. The rooms on the main road can be a bit noisy as the windows are not very sound proof. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a reasonable selection to choose from. Walkability: Very close to the Bradford Interchange train station and bus station. Close to the City Centre for shopping.
My husband and I stayed there Friday, 17th Feb. We had a lovely, well furnished room on 4th floor. The dinner on the night was wonderful, well presented, and breakfast next morning was good quality food and plentiful. The only negative was the appearance of outside entrance could be improved. But a lovely stay with friendly staff.
I had very mixed emotions about our stay. The hotel itself is quite special. What unfortunately was very obvious was that the staff lack any form of basic training. Countless customers were unhappy over being ignored so we werent the outliers. Food quality does not correlate with the prices. Sandwiches were on stale bread and very overpriced. Bar staff were completely clueless and bar inventory sparce. Management need to train staff on hospitality or be replaced with ones that can. This hotel deserves better staff. I wasnt overly impressed by the overcrowding in the hallways from the meetings but being busy these days is a good thing. Please work harder on making guests feel welcome and be more attentive.
