After phoning 111 which was handled very efficiently and with due care, two wonderful paramedics came to my home to assess me. They arranged an ambulance pick up and within the hour I found myself in the Emergency Care Unit. I cannot praise enough everyone whom I met over that 24 hour period. The staff, although very busy, ensured I had speedy and appropriate treatment. They were all professional, efficient and such delightful people. I can’t thank all who dealt with me enough, though I am now happy to be home. Hats off to the 111 service, paramedic and ambulance staff and everyone at the Emergency Care Unit at The University of Wales Hospital Cardiff
A day of spinal rods being lengthened. Bit disappointed with no help from staff. They wouldn't let me use a wheelchair cos the car park was too far away. And staff wouldn't help me by bring my daughter down to the car at the front door. Their advice was to fetch the car, park on the double yellow lines come upstairs and bring my daughter down in a wheelchair and return the wheel chair, leaving my daughter in the car unattended.
The NHS works very efficiently when it has to. I was given excellent care and attention when I attended the Heath A&E department with an injury and spreading infection. Despite attending in the early hours of the morning in a busy A&E with consequent long waiting times, the staff were courteous and helpful and gave full explanations of my treatment. Having been initially assessed and treated at the Heath I was redirected to Llandough hospital specialist orthopaedic department where I was seen, treated and then booked in for an operation the following morning. The surgeon and his team were efficient and helpful, the operating theatre facilities were modern and excellent and the staff supportive throughout. Post op support was just as good. I can only profusely thank everyone involved in my care .
Why do I have to wait outside when attending my wife's pre-natal consultant appointment? There is no separate waiting area set up for partners. If the weather is poor you're just expected to stand outside by the entrance and suffer, for an unknown amount of time. With all covid restrictions lifted, it seems ridiculous. It's especially frustrating as my wife suffered a traumatic first birth resulting in us both suffering from PTSD. We had already discussed this with the consultant midwife, yet no mitigation was offered.
I was recommended to attend A&E after consulting the 111 service. Excellent advice and questions from 111. attended 28/3 early morning and received first class service. Attended due to possible problems relating recent treatment at the cardiac day centre. Everything fully explained and handled well. Thanks team NHS well done.
It's a good place to work. There are nice people working there from around the world. I've met lots of friends.
Great new system in place at A&E at University Hospital of Wales. Don't bother going if you just need stitches or an x-ray for broken bones. If you're not on a stretcher or having a heart attack, you're deemed to not be in need of treatment, you can't even get past the 'clinician' on the door. My assessment consisted of being told I wasn't suffering a life-threatening emergency, and to go away. Just handed a leaflet with anumber to ring, and turned away. Fabulous. Next time I break a bone, I'll remember to ring in advance to book to be seen. If zero points was an option, UHW would deserve it.
Had an operation for a double hernia on Saturday the 15th June on the Duthie Ward at 10am. I came home the following day. Wonderful staff. Fantastic treatment. A big thank you to everyone on that ward. Slowly on the mend.
Andrea and the team at the medicine information centre were most helpful with offering me information regarding my skin medication and possible side effects Ranbaxy isotretinoin. I’d created a fear of taking my tablets and been suffering with anxiety as I had read up so much on the side effects which seemed to be a never ending list of all doom and gloom. After a few conversations though I started to realise I had created the anxiety in my head and scared myself. I also suffer with hay fever and asthma in the summer so unfortunately the tight chest asthma, physical sensation plus anxiety, made me associate the panics with my tablets. After an in depth discussion though I finally got the answers I needed and I no longer fear my tablets and use an inhaler when I’m short of breath. I know it may sound daft to some reading this but I don’t normally suffer that bad with asthma but because the side effects were scaring me so much I thought it was the skin tablets causing it. The thing with anxiety is, it causes all logic to fly out the window plus anxiety itself brings on more sensations like hypersensitivity to noise, light, skin etc etc. Anyway, lesson learnt, don’t google or over read side effects as all tablets have these and creating something that’s not there in your mind actually brings them to life.
Waiting 2 hours for a 5 minute appointment and nobody able to help and let us know how long the wait was going to be very unhelpful and very disatisfied with the experience booked in at 1:50 and by 3: 50 still not seen. Absolute rubbish if 0 stars was an option that is what i would give. If an appointment is booked for a certain time youve got an hour or 2 to kill in the meantime so i suggest maybe shopping or at least bring a book or newspaper to kill the time
