Gets a bonus because of the cool atmosphere and history.nnService is quick, but it look me a while to figure out I had to order via QR code. Also, I had to ask to get my table cleaned from previous guests. So I guess the staff aren’t super attentive, but whatever.. it’s a pub nnThe food is alright. Beer is good.
Good atmosphere and quick service! The food was great and prices not bad! Would definitely come back in my next trip to Oxford!
I’ve been here several times. Every time I have been, the service is quick, the staff are cheery and helpful, and even when it’s busy the atmosphere is nice.nThis time around I got the mac and cheese and halloumi fries. Both delicious and both came out hot, which was perfect for the weather! This time around we went on a Saturday at 12:30.
What a lovely hidden gem. Started of a little lumpy as they v didn't have Brandy what pub does t have Brandy? : they ran one of the dishes and they only take blue light discount if you order via QR code and not at the bar.nnThe staff were EXTREMELY Polite and efficient. The food was NOT Green King quality it was top class quality I've never been in a chain pub and eaten with such enjoyment 100% shoutout to the chef.nnGiven that this is potentially a tourist attraction destination pub the quoits service and price were all spot on
After dinner, we strolled through the beautiful city center. Near the 'Bridge of Sighs' on New College Lane, we spotted a sign for the Turf Tavern pointing down a narrow alley. We followed the winding and very narrow St Helen's Passage until we reached a cozy pub nestled against the old city walls, which has stood in the same spot since at least 1381. We sat on the charming outdoor terrace and enjoyed the warm summer night, a good pint of beer, and the unique atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. The restrooms were clean. This pub is in a truly special location, and the ambiance is almost magical because of it. Definitely worth stopping by for a pint!
