Reviewing hotels is based on experiences vs. expectations. Travel Lodge operate a 2* hotel chain with variations owing to age and architecture of the building. This hotel is perfectly fine. What do you expect for £60? There are three restaurants in easy walking distance. The breakfast you can purchase is basic but does the job. The important part is getting a good night's sleep and having as little interruption as possible. Location is excellent. Please note that other B&B options like the Church Mouse do not kick in early in the morning.
Good location. However, I do not suggest you stay for leisure or if you need a restful sleep as next to main road and the windows do not keep out the road noise. I was quite disappointed with this hotel. The rooms are very large. However, there was no soap in the bathroom or shower wash on the shower as they were both empty. The towels were also dirty. I had the unfortunate location of a room next to a hallway door. This was not soft close, and up until 3am, this door was slamming shut every time someone walked through it. The one good thing I can say about this hotel was the reception lady who checked myself and my colleague was extremely friendly and what I call "chirpy". However, I would not stay here again. Rooms: The lights in the hallway are on all night and doors, let alone of light in. Although spacious, the noise along can drive you a bit made, especially the hallway doors. Safety: The front and reception doors are both accessed by the fob. However, not hallways like other travel lodges
Great location for a stay with the kids. Easy access to Beamish and Durham for days out. Quiet location and nice rooms. Water pressure in one of the rooms wasn't great and not enough cups in one room, but that is minor.Rooms: 4/5
Great rooms clean and fresh, the staff very helpful a lovely pub attached to the travel lodge The church mouse vintage inn fantastic food Easy to get to local attractions Rooms: Clean and fresh Nearby activities: Beamish the living museum Newcastle city Angel of the north etc loads to see and do
Lady on reception went more than 100% to help. Rooms are clean and tidy. Basic but good. Next door is an adorable dog friendly pub with beautiful comfy interior decor. Be aware though. The very second last orders is called, the timer begins and the clock is ticking as lights are turned off chairs are pushed under tables and the management? Is hovering over you for your glass . I know we all have homes to go to, but ushering people out whilst looking at your watch is slightly unnecessary. Would I stay at the hotel again and revisit the pub? DEFINITELY! Maybe they were on a promise and wanted to get out of there .
Very good value hotel on edge of town. Convenient from A1. Joined to a very good pub. Rooms: Spacious and dog friendly. Food & drinks: Good choice of food in Church Mouse next door.
Another visit and again a very welcoming place. Staff are excellent and room though basic it ticks all the boxes for the two of us and accompanying dog Made very welcome, easy access for Beamish and Durham. 3 restaurants in walking distance. All you need. Rooms: Clean and comfortable Walkability: Nearby wooded area for walks.
Another peaceful stay at this Travelodge. Very friendly and helpful staff But that's the North East for you!. A very clean room and three nights of good sleepRooms: 5/5
The postcode is the same as the nearby football club, so make sure to keep any eye out for the right turning off the A road. No breakfast included in the hotel but is attached to a pub and within 20 minutes of two large retail parks containing various food chains. Rooms themselves were okay, we booked enough for 5 people and there was adequate space. Our shower body wash was hard to use, but we managed by opening the flap and pressing the button hard. Service was friendly enough but parking space is limited and shared by visitors to the pub next door, so make sure to park in view of the security camera on the side of the building. Location to Durham and other places is convenient as it is attached to a major A road. All in all, got what we paid for and was a stay that provided what we needed.
I had a pleasant enough stay but the reception was most often unmanned which led to a bit of waiting around at times. Breakfast was a box containing cornflakes, milk, orange juice, a paper bowl plastic spoon, a flap jack and a pastry type snack.Rooms: 4/5
