I have a booking for 12noon today Sunday 5th July 2026. I have gone to the door pressed the buzzer and clearly said I have a booking for 12noon today I don’t need to check in but I’ll like to put my licence plate in for the parking. I was told by Hamzer who works on the deck that he is not letting me in for safety reasons. No this ain’t the first time I’ve been to this hotel and it’s not the first time I’ve turn up before my booking time and the staff has left me out side talking on the speaker knowing I have a reservation for the hotel they have let me in to speak to me as normal never told me about safety and never told me I’m not allowed in because it’s not my time to check in. This Hamzer has heard my voice obviously knows I’m not from the area I’m from London and I’m a black male and he has use this reason to not let me in the building and told me it was because of him feeling unsafe. When I’ve told him that’s is very strange as I’ve been here 5 times on different occasions and I’ve never been told I not allowed in due to someone else’s safety I felt violated and like I was being judged because of the Black person I am and where I come from. I told him to repeat himself as I had him on recording and wanted evidence and the total nonsense he was saying to me then he tried to change what he said and said it’s because my booking ain’t until 3pm when I clearly told him several times it’s booked for noon and al I wanted to do it out my licence plate in the system and he still refused to let me and started shouting at me saying he’s not letting me in and to come back at 3pm. Many people came out of the building whist I was talking to Hamzer on the speaker and I literally could’ve just walked in anyway but I avoided doing so and the people walking out heard everything and started to talk to me saying that’s not right at all what kind of safety is he talking about as we just walked out the building and you could’ve easily walked in but you didn’t. There is no security so what kind of safety is he talking about it you can just walk in anyway as people are walking out. It’s disgusting behaviour and people who judge people for who they are and where they come from is outrageous I paid near and close to £50 for one night to be treated like an animal that has to remain outside as if I’m not human. I have never been so insulted and never experienced prejudice and racism like this in my life and I can’t believe I have experienced this at Travelodge and I have been to so many including this one at Alfreton and I hope no one else like me or where I come from has to experience this type of behaviour from staff in Travelodge who is meant to respect their paying customers and I am sick and tired of people who have a small and little Authority in their job to think it’s OK to treat people who ain’t from the same back ground or come from the same place as them like we are nothing I will be posting this on social media to show people like myself to be careful when they book a hotel and will be best not to go with Travelodge as they employ the racist and the Prejudice and this will most definitely be the last time I stay at a travelodge and this was the only hotel I’ve ever stayed in as I always came to this same hotel as a child to get to my age of 38 to be treated like I was nothing like I shouldn’t even be there. I literally felt like he said why are you here and he can’t you go away and book somewhere else because I don’t understand the need for his hate towards me and I’ve paid for my stay. Absolutely outrageous and disgusting behaviour from employees in Travelodge
Great place to stay, I stay here on a regular basis, the staff are lovely and friendly.nRooms are nice, beds are comfy, all round good value for the money. 5 stars
Initially, the building looks quite dated and old, but the rooms are a bit more modern. Really comfy king bed and duvet. Only issue is the shower pressure is quite low. Guy on reception lovely and welcoming.
Great location, really good standard of room with a pleasant receptionist. My first start here, definitely not my last. I look forward to staying here again. Highly recommended.
Again, a fantastic Travelodge with very friendly staff! Room was so spacious & super clean....bed beyond comfortable! We had a beautiful couple of large pump soaps in bathroom which was really helpful. Their was a large Burger King situated on the ground floor, a bit surreal but good to have! A lovely stay.
