The eatery is much improved now in ambience, comfortable seating and helpful and efficient staffs. The food and drinks are of great quality except that they’ll never master the art of cooking roast potatoes! They’re tough and undercooked and not done properly. However, overall a great place.
We just got back from Reading festival and Toby Carvery has been a life saver. The staff were absolutely rushed off their feet with hoards of young people coming in from the festival, but we were greeted with smiles, served at the bar super quick, and found tables, due to the efficiency of the staff politely moving people on and clearing down as soon as they finished their meal. On Friday evening we had the famous roast, a big plate of food, served really quickly, at a very reasonable price. And on Saturday morning we went in for breakfast, and again were greeted with lots of smiles and a fast efficient service. The toilet was blocked, but due to the amount of traffic it's hardly surprising. Great job to the team at Toby. Will be back next year.
If you don't actually want a roast dinner but you come here with people that do you'll have to choose food from the pub menu but the choices on the menu are not great at all especially for vegetarians so I think they need to add more options as it is 2023 so I am really not sure why they haven't caught up. Service was great though
Spent a leisurely lunchtime at the Caversham Toby Carvery. The food was delicious, the restaurant lovely, but it was our waitress Megan C that made the day. She went above and beyond to find us a comfortable and socially distanced table to accommodate my disability and my mum’s compromised immunity due to chemotherapy. We were so well looked after, and really appreciated her kindness and consideration. We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. The food was fresh and beautifully cooked, great value for money. We will definitely be going back. Vegetarian options: A really good range of vegetarian options, more than many restaurants. Parking: Plenty of parking, and plenty of disabled spaces near the door. Wheelchair accessibility: Very accessible, spacious, accessible WC very well appointed. Dietary restrictions: Great range offered on the menu.
Another great visit to this Toby carvery. We were greeted by Courtney who is very polite and always smiling. She seated us quickly and made us feel very welcome. The waitress who's name I didn't get was also very good. The food was great as always and the dumplings in gravy are a great addition we have not seen before. Please have these more often as they are very good.
Shout out to Archie. Lovely heart warming welcome from this guy, keep it up! Food is great at this price, but if you want a nice coffee, just pay 3 pound more…. It’s not expensive while the food is too cheap
Good value food, the meat was excellent, and the vegetables are self service so eat as much as you want. Shame the veg were over cooked and the Yorkshire pudding didn't rise. The vegetarian meat balls were not good. It was like a microwaved but roast. A roast dinner was £9 and refillable soft drinks £3.50. Staff are friendly. Free parking in a large car park. Disabled access is good, no steps. Kid-friendliness: A great place for kids. The refillable drinks are fun for kids. They have to vending machines with toys too. My kids love it. Parking: Free parking and lots of it Wheelchair accessibility: Well designed wheelchair friendly site
Having not been to a Toby carvery since before Covid times we thought we would give it a go and how pleasantly surprised we were. We were greeted and seated promptly and then our waitress Megan C was very polite and welcoming and looked after us well. We will definitely be visiting again soon.
Nice choice of food that all tasted nice and well cooked. Service was ok just not really much of it as you serve yourself so hard to say. A few plates were still dirty but obviously had gone thru dishwasher and not been checked ....noisy atmosphere if you don't like the sound of kids I'm a mum and I've been there myself but I hate seeing kids running round restaurants being noisy at others tables . But considering this is a cheap and cheerful place with decent food I will certainly return
Having booked a table for 7.30pm we arrived promptly at 7.25pm. We walked in to find a very long que of people. The man who was dealing with the front desk kept disappearing for extended periods of time and by the time we were acknowledged it was 8pm. When we finally were seated it was 8.15pm and then started the wait for our waitress to acknowledge us. A table seated after us were served and back with good before our waitress arrived. She was unenthusiastic and looked like she was less than interested in being there it serving us. He customer service skills were atrocious. The carvery itself was the only positive if the visit, the carver was prompt and the food was thankfully delicious. After we had finished we browsed the dessert menu, we finally got out waitresses attention 30 minutes after we had finished our main. Even then this required me going over to her to ask if we could order dessert. This was replied with a eye roll yes! We then waited a further 10 minutes whilst she chatted with 3 other people before finally taking our order. Once again the food was very good. We finally then tracked her down again to ask for our bill. Needless to say no tip was left for her. I have visited this Toby carvery previously and have to admit it is always very poor service, luckily the food is always nice, but service drastically needs to be addressed as it is awful! To wait to even be acknowledged for 30 minutes after reserving a table is a terrible start to a meal out!
