This small restaurant has an unassuming facade with a quaint, clean decor inside. 9 tables, seating no more than 4 to a table. The location is off the main streets of Hampstead, so you will enjoy a quieter meal in an uncrowded atmosphere. I ordered a Thai ice tea. The flavour is an excellent blend of sweet and strong black tea, and is served with plenty of ice, which is always appreciated. The vegetarian Pa Nang Curry is of superior quality. When I ordered, my server was sure to mention it is a dryer curry. He asked if I cared for bit more sauce in my order. I thought this was an excellent choice, so be certain to mention it if you prefer a wetter variety of curry over rice. Rice is served a lá carte, so I chose sticky rice. Excellent decision. The Pa Nang Curry has mushroom, green beans, flat pea pods, carrots, red pepper, broccoli, bamboo shoots, and baby corn.
Tip Top Thai used to be our best take away restaurant and we used to go there from time to time until I went there with a friend and because we shared a dish as we were not very hungry the restaurant manager gave us a vegetarian dish with hardly any vegetables and hardly no sauce. I have eaten there and recommended to all friends and family, but I would not recommend them anymore. The food is ok, but the attitude is not, the lady is always looking angry looking which is not very nice. Take away has been difficult, it has taken 1 hour or more to deliver as they either have forgotten the order or have taken the long route to our house. This is not acceptable.
The owner once called me a fat bar-steward. She wasn't actually trying to be rude, nor was she wrong, but it didn't endear her to me. Still, I lost 40kg since then and my knees feel better now, so perhaps I should thank her. She's the one sitting underneath the bar, watching over the place and counting the cash at the end of the night like the madam in a bawdy house. Update Oct 17: Cramped, badly lit and tatty. 109 choices on the menu - which suggests to me that the ingredients won't be fresh, well-sourced or carefully cooked. Our dishes arrived far too quickly after ordering and the approach to cooking seems to be - chuck as many spices in as possible and hope that sways them. My friends were more amenable and thought their dishes were, 'OK', and 'tasty' respectively. I'm reluctantly downgrading from 3 to 2 stars. Tip Top Thai is, however, cheapish for the area. 1x shared starter, 3x mains and 2x drinks came to £45 including service.
Decided to eat here rather than Wagamamas as I try to support private businesses over chains. As much as I like to be positive with my reviews this is only the second negative one I've left. The restaurant was a little cold. Consequently the tables were cold so the barely warm plates cooled down quickly which meant our food cooled rapidly. We sent back two of the chicken dishes for a reheat however once returned after a few more mouthfuls we felt they were best left alone. The chicken had an unfamiliar texture, I can only assume it's a very cheap chicken brand pumped full of water. Our waitresses pained expression when I advised the shortcomings of the chicken dishes either meant she's heard it all before or she just thought I'm some whinging tosser. Aside from that our other dishes were average, which correlates to the average price tag. Apart from the price of non alcoholic drinks which appeared well above average. Some you win, some you lose.
The food is 5 stars and we’ve enjoyed some really exquisite take outs from Tip Top in the past. However, the restaurant experience was quite different for us. We didn’t stay long enough to order food, because the attitude of the staff was hostile and unwelcoming to the point where we had to double check it was okay for us to enter. In their defence it was A Sunday evening at 10pm, and they close at 10:30. Make of that what you will. I’ll continue to order online but won’t be eating in here anytime soon.
very honest thai food that is very tasty but not in any way fancy - all well and good, but far too expensive. The interior makes you feel almost sorry for whoever works there when you walk past... so simple and ordinary compared to the restaurants next door. As I say - the food is perfectly good no frills Thai that is done well. Sadly too expensive. Hence 3*
Food very good but service is something to be worked on. If you are looking for a takeaway go for it but I'll avoid eating in. Rude and disorganised. We ordered a coconut rice but they forgot it, instead of just removing it from our bill they argued and insisted they did bring it with over. They refunded us a steamed rise in the end. Saving themselves £1. Pointless argument.
Ordered in, simply disappointing. Ordered two different veggie options and some spring rolls; food came almost a half an hour after the promised time, one of the portions was cold, ingredients did not seem fresh and the taste was not good at all. For the price would have expected a little more.
Best Thai food I've ever had. Good value, lovely staff, cosy atmosphere. First time I've been motivated to write a review on a restaurant.
Ordered on Deliveroo. One of the worst Thai meals I have ever eaten, the meat takes cheap and rubbery and the curry didn’t taste of anything. Avoid.
