Threadneedles, Autograph Collection

About

Threadneedles, Autograph Collection is a 5-star hotel and a top choice among luxury boutique hotels in London, England. We are near London's financial district, the Tower of London, and St. Paul's Cathedral.

Story

Threadneedles, Autograph Collection opened its doors in 2002 as the first luxury boutique hotel in the Square Mile and we are now a top choice among luxury boutique hotels in London, England. Formerly the Victorian banking hall, a Grade II listed building and the former head office of City Bank, Threadneedles, Autograph Collection blends the traditional with the contemporary. Our 5-star boutique hotel in London features a lobby that is dominated by an elaborately hand-painted stained-glass dome, which dates back to 1856 and floods the space in dazzling technicolour. It is supported by 6 composite columns and surrounded by simple and sophisticated interiors.

There are 74 individually designed guest rooms and suites across 5 floors in our London hotel. The Penthouse Suite has a private balcony offering views across the city. All interiors are elegant with a contemporary edge that works around many of the building’s original features.

In April 2013, Threadneedles became part of "Autograph Collection" - the exclusive portfolio of upscale and independent Marriott hotels.

Not sure why the hotel still has 5 star standing. Rooms are so dated not vintage but poorly maintained. My room had chipped tiles in the washroom, mold in the shower and broken sitting chairs. It was not worth the price they are charging. There are so many other hotels in the area with similar pricing and amenities but the upkeep is way better. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!
We came back to our room after we had been out for a couple hours for dinner to large puddles of yellow liquid in the bathroom that we had to soak up with our bath towels. Night time staff was helpful enough to have someone clean up the mystery yellow puddles but it was pretty unnerving needlesstosay. Definitely not a five star experience. The location is far from major tourist sites and the rooms were very small and cluttered with large furniture. 2/5
Stayed one night at this hotel prior to checking into a different Marriott I was booked at for work. The hotel is stunning and service is top notch. The staff goes way above and beyond. The room was exceptional. Clean and very updated. My two things I found unfortunate: No gym in the hotel. They give you access to the Virgin Gym down the street but the hours aren’t great. I like to hit the gym early and on Sat and Sun it doesn’t open till 9 Over the weekend this area is QUIET. Can’t even get a cup of coffee. I’m an early bird and like to start my day. If this is an option for a M- F hotel, book it. If you want quiet on the weekend and don’t mind sleeping in, book it. Rooms: Rooms are very nice, clean and updated. Walkability: On the weekend there is nothing open in the area. Food & drinks: Just had breakfast here and it was good. Servers were friendly and attentive.
Great hotel! Rooms are somewhat dated and the housekeeping is not always standardized in terms of time, but the service at the breakfast restaurant and at the front desk is fantastic! Everyone here is very kind and courteous and always helpful. Additionally the location is really good with connections to multiple underground lines and national rail services. Plus Tower Bridge, Borough Market, The Tower of London and the Shard are all only a 15-20 minute walk away!
Stayed in the Hotel in the month of August for 2 nights. Centrally located, closer to the central business district. Breakfast offers could improve. Very helpful staff, Gayatri at the reception who was courteous & also informative to my queries. Rooms surely needs an upgradation as per Marriott standard. Rooms: Needs upgradation for sure
This hotel was fine but certainly not a 5 hotel or experience. The building is really old and poorly laid out. Even though my boyfriend & I both have Marriott status, they put us on the 1st level which clearly used to be smoking floor. Overall, a fine experience but not worth the price and definitely not a 5 star..Rooms: 2/5
Very nice location. Near Royal exchange the office and several tube stations. Very boutique. Elevator is incredibly small but safe. Room was nice. Love the tower bridge wall art. Included breakfast was very nice. Everyone always greeted you and the hotel is beautiful! You can see many of the famous London skyscrapers and near many restaurants and tower bridge.
Very nice stay here at Threadneedles. Stunning lobby area with a very ornate glass dome and lots of seating makes for a very relaxed feel. Our room was excellent and very spacious with lovely amenities. Service was to a high level and very professional, especially James, who showed us up to our room and took care of our luggage Would love to come back to Threadneedles it made our weekend stay extra special.
I didn’t stay here as part of the hotel I just had lunch on a Thursday. It was 1pm and they had closed the official dining room so we ate as a four on a table by the bar. I think the dining area had tablecloths and is a bit more dressy. We had three carbonaras and a stroganoff. The food was decent. Not amazing but was pretty good. Unusually felt I could’ve eaten more of the pasta when usually I struggle to finish my bowl. I suppose it’s designed to encourage a second course but where the menu is limited it seems out of kilter. But yes the food was good. My colleagues had some wine which they liked and they also shared don’t ask a cocktail made with Lanique. Service was very good, really friendly and knowledgeable waiter. He was great. Pricing fair for the area. Not sure i would rush to go back for the food but perhaps to go back for drinks. Great looking drink selection. Food & drinks: See my review but we’re decent
Delicious food, lovely location, beautiful views. Hospitality needs a little improvement. Ling waits between meals, have to flag staff down for drinks. Not expected when fine dining with inclusive service charge...
