Thomas Oken

Story

Set in the small, historic town of Warwick and situated next to the famous castle, this beautiful old building was built over 500 years ago for its namesake, a wealthy & philanthropic merchant.
Thomas Oken died on 29th July 1573 and left the house in trust to aid the poor & to fund education & housing in Warwick.
Today, this delightful Tudor building is a traditional English tearoom. On the ground floor there are 2 cosy seating areas and a shop selling gifts, teas and fine bone china, some of which are made in Warwick. Upstairs is an elegant drawing room style space with comfortable armchairs and coffee tables, which can also be hired for private functions. Seating is also made available outside, when weather permits. We serve over thirty different loose leaf teas, ethically sourced from all around the world, as well as aromatic fresh coffees. Our extensive menu offers hot and cold savouries, such as traditional favourites - like Welsh Rarebit and Lamb Hotpot - as well as sweet treats including our Warwick Cream Tea, Oken Afternoon Tea and a range of delicious home-baked cakes. All are served on fine bone china in a traditional setting, and where possible, produce is sourced locally or is homemade.

We were hosting our friends from Dubai and saw the tearoom before heading up to Warwick Castle, what struck us at that time was it's lovely hospitable sign asking everyone to come in. We went in after completing the Castle visit and were very pleased with the Afternoon tea. The tea list was endless, the scones were freshly baked and delicious with ( to die for) clotted cream and jam. They had 3 choices of bread for the sandwiches and the selection was good too. We had Cakes at the end which were delicious.

I visited with my family after a day at Warwick Castle. This place is so cosy, and they have a wonderful selection of loose leaf teas. My partner, myself and my mother are vegan, and we were pleasantly surprised to see that they offer a vegan option on their menu (and many vegetarian options too). The soup of the day happened to be vegan as well. Food was delicious, and the tea was superb. They had a good selection of cakes, none vegan but one dairy-free that day. I've been back twice since, and the ladies are always friendly and provide great service. Highly recommend!

Lovely little cafe. Find just near entrance to Castle. So glad we had lunch here rather than Castle. Beautiful lamb hotpot, and steak and ale pie. They were so friendly and accommodating. Great with kids. Would have loved to have tried the delicious looking cakes, that the last were there for the delicious lunch. The tea was beautiful and served in lovely tea pot. The actual cafe had a lot of decorative touches and you could tell the building was really old and it had been there for a long time. Very cute and quaint.

The most cutest little place. It’s so cosy and it’s an excellent stop to make after visiting the castle. We intend just to take a quick bite and leave, but the atmosphere the ambience and the service made us spend around an hour in this place. There is a quiet music in the background and the food was unbelievable. We recommend the lamb stew. P.S: If you’re traveling alone don’t worry too much. There is a knight that sits at one of the tables too keep you company. 😜
