Early morning swim. Very pleasant staff, clean pool + facilities. St. Nic's Pk. Cafe, illy coffee, need l say more Know this park for 60 years. Never looked so good. Well done all who work here. Very much appreciated
Surprised at so many bad reviews. Ive been here many times with my children. Always find staff friendly and helpful. When my granddaughter bumped her head, they gave her an ice pack and a drink. Also when my car broke down in the car park on a hot day, they let me use their mobile phone and offered me some water and to sit inside whilst waiting for breakdown recovery. The food is simple but tasty and there are loads of different ice cream flavours! The building itself is very small and a bit run down. The toilets are elsewhere in the park, but close by. It could also do with more outside seating but space is limited.
Lovely park and surrounding area but the Cafe manager has let our whole experience down . My niece is only 1 years old her mum had premade a small snack for her due to certain allergies. We went into the cafe and settled her. I then went to the counter to order a few drinks and cakes for the group. Mark Manager came over and demanded that we are not allowed to feed her as the toddler had not brought the snack from him. My sister explained that she is only 1 and has allegies but the rest of the group are queing for food. His answer to her was that she could still not eat inside as he had not made the snack. At the end, after a heated discussion we left with my niece crying . A horrible experience for mother and baby. Even the counter assistant was embarrassed by what she had witnessed . St Nicholas Park has been let down by the actions of this man and we will not be returning. He needs to be trained on customer service and have a better understanding on people's needs .
I have been to the cafe several times and always thought how rude the older members of staff are. Today however I went in to the cafe after my son had had a fall to ask if they had a plaster or first aid kit so that I could sort his bleeding knees. I was told that I couldn't have a plaster but I could buy a box for £2.70. I will never spend money there again!
Had 4 grandchildren & 3 adults with my party. We sat inside & the children had a few snacks & the adults ordered food and coffee. We were instantly approached by what I assume was the manager who told us we could not eat inside or on the patio as we consuming our own food & drinks. We advised him we had ordered coffees & hot food but he refused to back down as the children were eating snacks. Very officious & pedantic. Dont wste your money.
Friendly girl serving at the counter, couldn’t have been anymore helpful. Sadly the visit took a turn for the worse when my daughter accidentally knocked over her bottle of drink. I asked one of the young men working for plenty of blue roll and some cleaning spray so that I could clean up our mess before anyone slipped. I also felt it my responsibility to sort rather than asking a staff member to do the cleaning. He brought me 3 pieces of blue roll which I thanked him for but told him it wouldn’t be enough for the sheer volume of sticky liquid that had covered the table, floor, chairs and window sill. He then returned with an additional 2 sheets and a small, dirty cloth and no cleaning spray. I asked him to please fetch some more and he told me he was ‘very busy running round’ and didn’t have time. At this point, I told him he could see just how big the spillage was so please bring me a good handful and some spray rather than a few sheets at a time- this would save him having to keep returning. He walked off and didn’t return. Then, a woman who I can only assume is the manager, came over and asked us to move so she could mop. As we were trying to relocate tables, I mentioned the unhelpfulness of the previous staff member, to which she started being rude. When I asked her why she was being so confrontational and why I’d still not received any cleaning spray, she huffed and stormed away. I appreciate things can get busy at lunchtime, but it’s the summer holidays. The tearooms are in a busy park, it wasn’t a shock that they had the level of customers they had. There had been plenty of opportunity to plan ahead and work smarter not harder. Aside from the mess which we made that I was doing my absolute best to clean with no products to do so, the window sills were absolutely filthy. I cleaned those with a baby wipe for you. The wipe was black afterwards. In contrast, my ham cheese and red onion baguette was lovely. It was a pleasant surprise to find it made with ham cut from the joint rather than out of a packet.
It's a nice enough little cafe to grab a coffee while at the park. They do have alternative milk options, vegan gelato and doggy ice-cream. I don't think the inside hasn't been revamped in my lifetime and i don't think there are toilets in there but there are public ones near by.
It's not what you say but the manner in which you say it that causes offense. Have been here many times, but this morning's experience deserves a review. New ownership? New staff? No idea, but so rude! Our group of students with special needs each made their purchase and sat outside to consume them. Their experience of being served varied hugely between the lady that was extremely patient and accommodating and the gentleman that was frankly neither and would make no allowances to allow our non-verbal students to make their choices. As I sat with them, I tucked into my own cookie. I was curtly told that I can't eat my own food and that there are signs. True enough, but there's a polite way to communicate and that certainly wasn't it. We've been going there for years with our students and following the same routine, with nothing but friendly, helpful and accommodating staff there, but if it's my choice then we'll never return. He not only lost out on the order for staff drinks that had yet to be placed, but also our repeat business. Such a shame.
Absolutely rude staff. I ordered ice cream inside with my son in his buggy and the front panel of the ice cream counter fell. I managed to stop it before it hit my son and told the staff what had happened. The older gentleman came over with the younger member of staff and tried to put it back on but it kept falling. I said that it was dangerous and could have fallen on my 1yr old. He told me to go to the til to order which I did and could hear him saying they would put tape on it to hold it up. This was concerning as it was quite heavy and tape would not help. I told the lady at the til it was dangerous and she said ‘we’re fixing it’. I then said that tape would not help and it almost fell on my son to which she replied ‘I told you we’re fixing it’. I had no apology whatsoever. Absolutely rude and no concern for anyone but themselves.
They have good coffee and biscuit. Great place to relax
