The Yoga Lounge

About

The Life Centre in Manchester is a friendly haven where yoga, Pilates and natural therapies inspire well-being.

Story

Founded in 1993, The Life Centre is a friendly haven, where yoga and Pilates inspire well-being and a community spirit. We believe firmly in the values of community; we are an integral part of our local communities in Manchester and London, play our part in the wider UK yoga community, and, perhaps most importantly, help to create a community among our students and clients.

Mission

We believe firmly in the values of community: by being an integral part of our local communities in Manchester and London, by playing our part in the wider UK yoga community, and, perhaps most importantly, by helping to create a community among our students, teachers and staff. At The Life Centre, you will be welcomed with a smile, and, after a few visits, probably greeted by name. We pride ourselves on employing friendly and knowledgeable staff with the experience to answer your questions about yoga and Pilates. We also believe that there is a yoga path for everyone: female or male, young or old, stiff or bendy; that that there are many authentic paths of yoga, all of which deserve respect; and that our teachers should be well trained, but should each retain their own unique style, approach and creativity. Above all, we believe that The Life Centre is about YOU!

This yoga centre is great. I’ve had a few of the teachers now and they’re all amazing, they have made me feel super comfortable by creating a safe space to practice yoga to any level and also push us to try new things. I really love that there’s a mix of seriousness and lightheartedness in the classes.
All the teachers are great, love the studio but Victoria Tunnah is the worst - she treats people like kids in school. Absolutely hated her
Practicing yoga in the infrared heated room has proven beneficial to my back and joint problem. I have become so much more flexible within a short time. The clean and hygienic studio makes me feel comfortable to practice my yoga there. Everyone should give yoga lounge a go. It’s not about physical flexibility, it’s about being open to try something new. : All the teachers have impressive qualification and experience, friendly yet professional. You are all in safe hands. :
I attended the Wednesday Mat Pilates and I absolutely loved it. The instructor she was really welcoming and adapted the poses for different needs within the class, including for pregnancy. I felt that we were really able to connect with each pose in greater detail and really learn the poses correctly. The sequences were great and it was a really fun class! I'm looking forward to the next! The Hot yoga here is great too - varied classes for all levels.
Positives: amazing teachers and classes! Open all day every day, which is great! Negatives: shocking customer service at reception sometimes. I’ve had average customer service from the help desk when I first started but decided to continue anyway because the yoga teachers are so great. Today, I even decided to become a permanent member and actually had a lovely lady at reception called Rachel. But I was then so shocked when, after a long and hard day at work, I was sent away by another receptionist for being 5 min late for a class first time I’ve been late in 6 months, due to heavy traffic on the road. People are late all the time when I’m in class and I don’t resent them for it; God knows the reasons they have and yoga is supposed to be all about love and understanding, isn’t it? I totally understand that there is a policy on late arrivals but I come to yoga to chill and thought the receptionist would share our passion for yoga, practice forgiveness and gratitude herself but no, in spite of explaining that it was only 5 min and due to traffic on the road and after only a few hours after having decided to become a member! I was sent away I live 1h walk away from the centre under the rain… I don’t want this incident to tarnish my love for the centre and its teaching, but it wouldn’t hurt to improve customer service, I think.
I started at The Yoga Lounge without any hot yoga experience, and with the worry that such high temperatures would be too strenuous for my body. The expertise and confidence of the tutors gave me the confidence to keep attending classes, and I am now very grateful I did so. My body thanks me on a weekly basis. Furthermore, I was pleasantly relieved to discover that the tutors do not concentrate only on the physical, but also on the spiritual and on the energies that flow through our bodies in the sessions. I highly recommend The Yoga Lounge to anyone who wishes to practice hot yoga, whether experienced or beginner, for the reasons above as well as many unmentioned.
I LOVE The Yoga Lounge, after dabbling with yoga at the gym and becoming a regular at Bikram Yoga my zest for yoga became more than what Bikram Yoga could give me but I still wanted the heat! I wanted more, I wanted to learn more and this is what the yoga lounge does for you...with topics of the month and regular workshops....discussion during class and physical adjustments to make sure you are practicing in the correct way, the fantastic teachers guide you along your yoga journey with ease. My yoga practice has deepened and advanced so much over the last year and its down to The Yoga Lounge!!
Yoga teachers are fantastic and would rate them all 5* however the company continue to take payments from my account after asking for my account to be frozen and then again after terminating my membership. It has happened many times and they blame my bank but I know others have had the same problem from different banks. You’ll get your money back but they are not in a rush.
I've been going to The Yoga Lounge since May 2013 and have really noticed the benefits of regular practice. I enjoy the variety of classes and teachers and find the environment really welcoming and relaxed - all staff are really willing to chat and answer any questions/offer advice. A great place to get rid of the days work stress and stay fit and healthy!
I am a regular at The Yoga Lounge, and love the Hot Yoga, Hot Yoga Flow and Fusion classes. The facilities are all new and lovely, the teachers are fab and they always have great offers. Am looking forward to the Detox Weekend at the end of April as well! I tried the Pilates Barre class this evening and am adding that into my weekly routine!
