Beautiful pub set in the heart of Hampshire countryside. The interior is well decorated, nice and cozy with an open fire place. The food quality is pretty impressive. We really enjoyed our chunky chip, great texture and flavor. Looking forward to trying more of their dishes. It is 2 rosette and 4 star hotel so the menu reflects this. Highly recommended to visit this pub.
I had a one night stay whilst working in the area, as well as staying in the hotel I also ate in the restaurant. The staff were all outstanding, from check-in to dinner to departure. My company not the hotel had actually messed up the payment for the hotel but the manager handled this very professionally and kindly with the issue resolved smoothly and in no time at all my company were able to make payment. I mentioned I had an early start and would be skipping breakfast, the next thing a hamper of cereal, and crossaints was brought up to my room, with fresh juice and milk in an ice bucket - so thoughtful and it made me feel so welcomed. The stay exceeded all expectation. The hotel room was spotless, warm and comfortable. The open brickwork wall and thoughtful interior furnishings create a luxury vibe. The bathroom was tiled throughout with a monsoon shower head. The clean spotless bathroom also benefited from a heated towel rail. Finally, I will mention the Woolpack Burger was worth the stay alone and strongly recommend it.
A really wonderful experience for a birthday getaway. The Woolpack isn't immediately surrounded by much so if you're looking to get away from it then this is the place. The food is great with one vegetarian meal per section even though it's known as a game-shooting pub, the rooms are a little on the small side but very nicely done up and the staff - oh, the staff! Every single person we interacted with was friendly, attentive and capable. We also drove to the brewery in nearby Four Marks and had a wonderful shopping experience at Long Barn. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and thank you again, Woolpack! Noteworthy details: Staff, staff, staff! So friendly, attentive and capable. Every single one of them deserves to be recognised. Thank you for being one of the highlights of our stay - it really does make a difference.
Some of the best food I’ve ever eaten at a pub! I had the chicken salad with a side-order of truffled mac & cheese. Absolutely unbelievable - never wanted these dishes to end!! The portion sizes here are great, and there is an awesome selection of drinks to choose from. I enjoyed a delicious pale ale with my food The service here is warm and friendly, and when one of my party had an issue with her dish some of the mussels served had not opened the staff were apologetic and quick to help, replacing the unopened mussels immediately. Will definitely be back Food & drinks: Absolutely stellar food, eating here is a must if you are in the area!!
Such a disappointment! We’ve been visiting The Woolpack for quite a few years now and have always had a great experience. This Sunday however, we were extremely disappointed with the standard of food and the customer service - or rather lack of it received! My husband’s roast beef was served cold. He sent it back and 5 minutes later a new plate of roast beef was served with no apology for the incident. The food was sitting in a plate full of gravy. When my husband queried this, the waiter said this was “due to the angle of the table!”. Clearly the gravy was poured on in copious amounts to keep the food warm, however this just made it completely unappetising for my husband and he sent it back. Whilst I finished my main course, nobody came to my husband to offer him an alternative or see what they could do to rectify the situation. Appalling. Lunch was ruined and in hindsight, we should have contested paying for anything really given the experience. However, we just couldn’t wait to leave! We’ll take some convincing to go back.
Thoroughly thoroughly disappointed. I’m staying in swarraton for the weekend for my anniversary. We thought we’d go for a lovely pub roast but that is far from what we experienced. We arrived and were seated in the most uncomfortable seats. Though we did ask to move and they did accommodate this. The food arrived the calamari was okay. Fresh but very oily. The roast dinner well. The gravy was great! Very rich and delicious. The lamb was fatty and chicken was dry. Carrot was raw in the middle very crunchy. Potatoes were cold in the middle. Cauliflower cheese was mushy not one full piece of cauliflower in site. Alcohol and drinks were well priced and bar staff were great! As a bartender and my partner being a chef we did expect more for £80. We weren’t sat in the restaurant part just in the bar where we had to listen to some people obnoxiously sat at the bar talking about horse manure the whole time we were eating. Disgusting. I asked for a dessert menu which took about 25 minutes to arrive. Would not come here again if i was ever in the area. A very horrible lunch. Not just food but atmosphere and horse manure conversations. Would not reccomend left feeling robbed of my money!
The best burgers in Hampshire! The staff are lovely and the pub itself is cosy and inviting.Service: 5/5
Very disappointing experience. Have been before, but arrived today with a hiking group. Lots of staff milling about but seemingly nobody with any idea how to run a bar, bar one lady worked off her feet and making sure everyone including customers were able to hear her complaints. A friend ordered a hot chocolate and this was too much and when she explained her lactose intolerance a male colleague was extremely rude and dismissive. When another friend sat to play the piano despite customers enjoying the music, he was quickly moved on by a grumpy team members. Very expensive, very poor service and everything too much work. I don't expect this place to survive with such a poor attitude from the staff.
We stayed in the family room last night. We felt welcomed but didn't book dinner as we weren't hungry. A bit later we were THOSE people who suddenly change their minds. The manager went out of his way to set a table and make sure we were catered for perfectly. Every member of staff was welcoming...especially the young lad that checked us in and the guy behind the bar was so helpful. We were seated in less than ten minutes. The food was exceptional and I was really pleased we decided to eat there. The bed was so comfortable and I would've stayed until the last minute if I didn't have to go to work. I also didn't use the little ice cold bottle of milk left at my door as I had to leave...I was gutted. There were really nice touches everywhere and I most definitely will stay again!
We stayed at the Woolpack inn for one night to split up a lengthy drive we were doing. We stumbled across this place and by chance they had a room. I cannot recommend this place enough. Firstly, the grounds are beautiful and I’d imagine in the summer it would be amazing to sit outside. We were greeted by the most friendliest staff. We were showed to our lovely room which was unique and well equipped. We both had an incredible nights sleep. In the morning fresh milk was left outside our door which was a lovely touch. We also had dinner and deputy manager I believe? Whose name I did not get, lovely Portuguese gentlemen recommended us the Mignon for two. INSANE!!! I’d go as far to say it’s probably the best meal out we’ve ever had. Delicious. And we were so glad it was recommended to us. We also had starters that were just as good. Atmosphere was lovely. And we felt very welcome. The same gentlemen manager had lengthy conversations with us and really made us feel welcome. Lots of drinks choice as well! My favourite being the pink mermaid gin Breakfast again was divine. And a huge huge compliments to the chef. We feel incredibly lucky to have stayed and dine here. Thank you to the manager and landlord for everything. We look forward to returning in the summer! Laura and Tom
