Story

Big buckets of prawns, juicy steaks, fish dishes and breakfast buffets, ice creams, teas, coffees and even our own brand of locally brewed beer, the Winking Prawn’s style of shabby chic beach restaurant and cafe has been enjoying life at North Sands in Salcombe for more than 20 years.

Sandy toes and salty paws are welcome come rain or shine for breakfast, lunch and dinner (but don’t forget to book in the evenings and keep an eye out for seasonal opening times). In the summer we also have a barbecue in the garden to enjoy as the sun goes down, and our dressing up box is legendary for bringing out your inner pirate, mermaid or fairy princess no matter how old you are.

Great place to eat after a walk on the beach. Food is excellent, very fresh and big portions. Very busy, but that's cause its good.

How ridiculous, I have just rung to book a table for 10th April it is at present 24th February and I have just been told I can only book for 6pm or 8.30pm and not at 7.30pm as I requested. I thought the whole point of booking a table so far in advance is so you can choose when you would like to eat not to be told when you have to eat. I shan't bother.

It's always nice to get to the Winking Prawn and have some of their lovely food after walking from Salcombe.

Cone of popcorn shrimp was really tasty and generous portion. Prices what you expect in a tourist town, and ordering and food service was quick and polite. The inside the caps of the fruit juices we ordered were covered in mould, but friendly staff were happy to swap them for another drink. Take the coastal road rather than the footpath if coming from Salcombe as Simon Cowell has obstructed any view there used to be. Thanks Simon.

I liked this place. I had a prawn sandwich certainly not cheap but very nice and some candy shrimps to take home. Had two deluxe hot chocolates in the week and would recommend. Very busy in half term..
