Wasn't expecting The Ritz for the price but I would have expected rooms what didn't require a total overhaul and a bed that had a mattress where you didn't sink deep into the bed.nHowever the service by the staff at breakfast and in the bar was first class. A problem too was on the literature that said food was served until 9 but we were told at 8 that service had finished. However the staff fit us in and the food was brilliant. So was the breakfast.nOverall food great, service great, pub great, location great, price brilliant, rooms and bed need attention. Will return again.
Stayed here before, and it was a really pleasant experience. Unfortunately, this time, it wasn't what we were expecting. The rooms were run down compared to our last visit. There was paint peeling off the walls in room 4and not just a little bit, it also smelled damp. There seemed to be no care and attention for it being a pleasant stay as it was before. Breakfast was ok, but they brought out the toast about 10 minutes before we got the breakfast? Which, personally, didn't make any sense to me. I would also advise having the hot water at a lower level, in case of any accident and not at face level where it was, on top of the coffee machine. Sadly, not anywhere near as nice a stay as previous visits. Location near to town.
Friend was holding a birthday party so we booked to stay over. Hotel side is in dire need of updating, peeling wallpaper and carpets need renewed. No hot water, so no shower in the morning. On the plus side the bedding and towels were lovely and clean as was the bathroom, just a pity it wasn't functional, apart from no hot water only a trickle of water from shower. Also would not recommend for anyone with mobility issues there are steps everywhere. Function room was nice and bar food was fine.
We booked one night room here, however on seeing room decided not to stay.nDated decor, one wall completely bubbling wall paper peeling off, unsure to if this is a damp problem, but smelt damp and fusty.nCarpets old and thread bare in places , stained.nBathroom not very clean.nDidn't unpack, went elsewhere!nnHad to carry cases upstairs, no lift. Dark corridors and confusing light switches location.nVery small car park.nWould have been a 1 star however, staff were friendly enough.nSo sorry but in our experience each to their own would not recommend, apologies.
We had a very pleasant 11 night stay here. Good value great breakfast every day and pleasant staff. The bed was comfortable and although the room was dated decoration wise it was kept immaculately clean. The hotel is well located for both town centre and riverside and park walks.
