I experienced terrible, unhelpful and at times rude customer service from the owner of 'The Upholstery Shop. I am disabled and had requested replacement foam fillings for 3 sofa seat cushions to be made up at a cost of c£200 with the clear instruction that I wanted them to be made very firm due to my disability, as it is uncomfortable for me if I sink down into the seat cushions if the foam is too soft and unsupportive. When ready after a week or so, my wife and I collected them and took them home, but when I tried them they were far too soft, uncomfortable and not firm at all like I had clearly requested. I contacted the owner by telephone the next morning to say they were unsatisfactory and the foam was not firm enough as I was sinking down too low, causing problems with my back (the reason I wanted firm foam in the first place). Unfortunately, I had paid on collection at the store. I asked him if I brought them back would he improve them with a firmer foam to make them much firmer, but the owner refused point blank to try even to help and was unwilling to attempt to rectify the problem. He basically told me it was tough luck because he'd already cut the foam and was unwilling to change it. If I wanted them firmer I would have to pay him in full again for new ones! He also refused to give a refund if I took the unsatisfactory foam back. I hung up the phone - gave it 2 hours then called back him again to see if I could reason with him, reminding him that I was disabled and had clearly told him that I wanted them very firm because of my disability. Eventually, he said that the only thing he was willing to do was to use the existing foam but get a section cut out and then add a section of firmer foam. I reiterated that I needed it to be very firm so the thicker the firm foam section the better. I waited for a further 2 weeks until they were 'ready', then went to pick the cushions up again with my wife, took them home and discovered they were even worse - the cushions were still way too soft and felt actually not as firm or thick as they had been initially - in fact they felt even worse than before!. In my opinion based on what I have experienced, this man has an arrogant attitude, thinks he knows best and simply does not listen at all to the customer remit. It was a complete waste of money, time and caused a lot of stress and inconvenience for me and my family. Based on my experience, avoid this business and go elsewhere, save yourself stress and money. All imo. I have read the owners latest response below which is simply not true, the foam he used was a composite and he refused to change it despite it not being firm enough. The foam layer at the top of the composite he used was far too soft and he refused to change that, it could have been done and this has been confirmed to me by an independent source.

Excellent. This was a first for Paul to re-upholster a very old deck chair. I bought the fabric from Jim Lawrence (discontinued candy stripe) and Paul canvas backed it to make it stronger. It was delivered just in time for Christmas and it made us all very happy. It looks absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much. Sharon x

Paul re-upholstered my Dad's favourite chair, and did a truly beautiful job. It looks amazing. And because Dad had to wait a while for his chair to be done (Paul was doing other contract work at the time), Paul offered to reduce the bill to compensate. My Dad and I wholeheartedly recommend this very kind , trustworthy man, both for the quality of the work and equally for his courteous and considerate level of service. It is sometimes difficult to find people we can totally trust, (my father is 94 and could easily be taken advantage of), but Paul was honest, kind and very considerate. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to others. Thank you so much!

Wanted the seat springs and cushions refilled on our sofa. Had to wait awhile after initial contact but once reached on his list couldn't fault the service. Very friendly and helpful. Collected one day and delivered all complete the following, price was lower than quoted and job well done. All in all excellent quality of work and service.
