We have repeatedly been impressed with the Sunday cuisine of extensive Indian buffet and the traditional roast with 2 choices of joints with all the trimmings. The 2 joints were beef and Turkey both so succulent and the roast potatoes so crispy with steamed veggies.. They really need putting on the map Of good places to eat. We would highly recommend it.
Room was dirty, plug in sink let the water out, bathroom was awful . Wallpaper coming off the wall black mould on ceiling in shower room and on grouting , extractor fan made a noise like it was going to break. Lamp at side of the bed flashed on and off due to a bad connection, electrics needed a look at in room one. Very dated decor and not clean at all. Plastic shower unit casing had holes in it and again made loud noise abd was filthy. Bedding smelt musty although towels were very clean . Probably one of the worst rooms we have ever had. The lady that booked us in yesterday was lovely and very helpful but the waitress at breakfast was abrupt and sullen, no chat, no smile. We chose full English but I really thing pork sausage and proper bacon need to be offered. I know some religions don't like pork but most English do for breakfast. The breakfast was cooked well and tasty but having to ask for butter and sauces for the breakfast is wrong. Also no toast rack offered after toast is placed on your full English. Cheap croissants, they weren't to freshly baked ones but the cakes soft cheap ones.. All in all a disappointing stay with a massive underground wasps nest out the front in the grass scaffolding around the building and dirty lack lustre dated rooms. We won't be returning which is a shame as the village is lovely.
The reception of customers is excellent with the staff being warm and friendly. If you were just going in for a drink it would be 5 star. Unfortunately the decor is a little tired and dated and the restaurant service was a bit haphazard and slow. The food I ordered was disappointing with the meat in the Chicken Korma really tough and chewy - how do you manage that with chicken? - and there wasn't much of it swimming in the tasty sauce. I have had better meals there in the past, so maybe this was a rare lapse rather than anything else.
Went for Christmas lunch. Would be a good idea if they say they add service charge onto food and drinks bill separately. Vegetarian food was very spicy, staff serving didn't appear to know what Gluten free was, no choice for a sweet only ice cream
An interesting Victorian building, which is clean and comfortable, in a wonderful location. Iffley village is a walk along the Thames down to town and if you go the other way you can access the sustrans route to Abingdon, which is a beautiful market town. The Indian food was delicious and well above average. There is a beautiful restaurant at the front of the building with grand windows overlooking the front garden. At the back there is a nice cosy bar where you can also eat. The staff were all friendly and kind. I felt happy during my stay. Many thanks.
Had a drink on Easter Sunday afternoon after a long walk along the river. Sat in a pleasant garden. Pub clean & polite friendly staff.
We stayed 2 nights at the hotel in the first weekend of Feb cold. This hotel is a classic example of not wanting to invest in the hotel to make money. Though the people are great. We stayed in number 5. Carpets stained and worn out, the chair immediately broke when I went to put my hand bag on it, the sofa is missing a leg. The owners turn off the heating for the room and water during the day. Shower at night is lukewarm with no pressure and the room was cold. At night, the main room light flashes intermittently all night. I bumped into the neighbour and asked them about the heating before complaining and they complained about the same thing and were told their room was faulty and would me moved to another room. Overall, not a happy customer and recommend the owners invest or customer to spend a few pounds more.
By far the worst so called "hotel" I have ever been in, can't say I stayed because I left 30 minutes later. Really bad state, unclean and looked like it had been decorated by shrek. Ignore the good reviews as these are for the restaurant
Second visit in two weeks. Lovely service, food to die for very good prices. Would definitely recommendService: 5/5
The worst hotel I have ever been. Doesnt worth zero star. I have stayed 12-13/ September there. Starting from the staff as we asked them for extra bed for the kid but they refuse. The one on the reception told me we tried to take the 95£ cost of 1 night stay before I came in ?!!!!!! Also stairs to the rooms: many blankets and other stuff on the sides, and even not in closed boxes or away from your sight. Like you entering a needy house. The rotten on the sides of the room walls and on the ceil. Net of spiders on the old room window which mean it is open from ages without any care. The ceil in poor condition and the painting is about to fall. No Fredge. No air conditioning. Small fan. I have tried 10 minutes to set the shower to put on warm water but failed as either cold or very hot. Very weak shower flow as well. Large spider in the bath. The skimmed milk are expired with bad odor and taste. My 3 year old son has drunk one before we notice. I have open the other small skimmed milk and they are disgusting. The mirror shelves in the bathroom are rusted. Very expensive and I am regretting my stay. I believe they got customers because of the bar as they are taken care of it but the rooms are awful. The breakfast is good but it is a regular breakfast as any other hotel. 95£ is too expensive. My advice:The best thing to do either to close the hotel for accommodation or to rebuilt the hotel from scratch. It is not a legacy to keep such building without imrovement.
